thats a good idea and nice work, but isnt that incredibly bulky to attach to your camera?
I guess the design is good, I just can't get past the name...

In my best Beavis laught: Heheheheh! You said erection!
But in all seriousness, where'd you get the custom cut mirrors?
Same here J. So if you don't get the image completely rotated, do you have image erectile dysfunction? Sorry, had to be said!

can we call this something else other than "image erection?"-

haha
how bout "image flipper"? (sounds abit like a dolphin)
or "image rotater/corrector"
its final size will be a box 1.5"x3.25"x3.25" (LWH)
i dont think its that much of a trade off, image erect..err, i mean, flipping for an addition of 1.5" to your adapter.
i got the custom cut front surface mirrors from http://www.fsmirrors.com

Hopefully this is not a dumb question...but will an external LCD monitor with a flip function (my portable DVD player flips the image for inverted operation) duplicate your image inverters function electronically? I haven't seen this discussed anywhere yet.

yes, some external monitors will do this.
but i created it so you dont have to flip the monitor around.
also, so you dont have to flip it in post.
no crazy upside down monitors, camcorders, or laptops (i havent seen this, but im sure its been done)
considering what most people will pay/go through to get just the macro and gg working, $31 is pocket change.

I'm just having a laugh, sorry- So, this has been covered, but I forget. Can I somehow flip the image in my viewfinder by using some sort of magnet?
Thanks

yep, you can do that too. it just doesnt work with every camcorder out there.

i posted more pictures on my concept and how it fits on an adapter system. not much. hopefully a finished adapter next week

I remember you mentioning this in another post, when you first ordered the mirrors. I think it is a pretty good idea. However, what if you put the mirrors between the 35mm lens and the GG, then could you use smaller mirrors and reduce the overall adapter size?
How did you determine the size of mirrors you needed?
Thanks,
Larry

if you put mirrors between the lens and the gg, you screw up the flange-to-gg distance. the mirrors create a 120mm optical path, whereas most flange-to-gg distances are less than 50mm.
calculating mirror size? pythagorean theorem! its a little confusing to put in words, so ill post it on my site.

I guess I'm still a little confused on this part (please forgive me, my knowledge of optics is limited). I thought if the distance from lens to first mirror and the distance from last mirror to GG was the same as the original distance from lens to GG it would be the same thing. Is that not correct? Are you saying the the optical path from lens to GG is fixed regardless of what comes between them?

Thanks, I'll check on that later.

yep, the optical distance between the lens mount flange and the gg is a manufacturer fixed distance. the mirror system is physically only 36mm long, but optically it adds 120mm of distance since the optical path is folded by the mirrors.
for instance, on my minolta md. the distance is 43.7mm. putting the mirror system between my lens and gg would make that optical distance 163.7mm. even though the mirror system would physically be able to fit between the mount and gg with no addition to the physical distance.

So I think I am going to build a DOF adapter going off the plan from herehttp://www.mediachance.com/dvdlab/dof/index2.htm and I am probably going to make one of these prisms to flip the image. So...here's the question: Where should the prism be placed? I was thinking of between the macro and the GG. I will worry about the opticla path and the 120mm thing later because don't really understand it. Unfortunately, I won't be building it til January but I will be sure to take lots of pictures and post about any successes or problems. Thanks again for the info guy, it's been a big help!

I know nothing about 35mm adapters, but could you build an adapter that focuses on a mirror instead of GG to get rid of the grain problem?

pardon me, but from looking at your blog etc...
I don't understand where the "micro35/mini35" comes into what you are doing-

iced out!
thats where the adapter (35mm lens mount for minolta md, rotating ground glass) comes in. like i said, i've finished only one part out of three. one being the mirror system, the other two being the adapter and support rods/camera mount. i couldn't be original enough with a name, and i didnt want to name it after myself, so i decided to steal from every design out there and jsut call it a "wannabe". if it works, it works...right?
mccutch
though this has been covered in many other forums, threads, and posts, ill just reiterate.
to maintain 35mm depth of field, a transparent intermediate image plane (i.e. ground glass/wax/scrim/pringles can cap) must exist for the 35mm lens to project it's image onto. otherwise, the whole point of having a 35mm lens is pointless.
little bobby
placing the mirror system between the gg and macro is exactly where it should be. hope to see your adapter soon!

btw, im so so close to finishing the damn thing.
just waiting for parts.
in the meantime, i ran a test of the "adapter" part of my system.
go check it out. http://wannabemini35.blogspot.com
