I thought this was too cool to get lost in the Cafe. There should really be a forum for discussing "film" in advertising, but since there isn't, I'm putting this in the "film discussion" forum (unless otherwise moderated).

Here is a neat idea (90 second short):

Amazing. Now that ties for best spot ever with the "Big Ad" from Carlton Draught. I bet you can't watch it without smiling at least once.

I guess the title "Sony LCD Commercial" just wasn't catchy enough.

sony lcd commercial not so interesting...but when you say 250,000 super balls released in Sf...now that gets my attention.

how long has this ad been around? really fun to watch...would have been fun to witness it.

If I had my car parked on one of those streets, I'd be pissed.

In the extended version, during the shot of the side of a reddish house, just before the frog jumps out of the spout, you can see a shingle fly off the side after a ball hits that spot.

I think it's pretty recent.

I saw that as a high def demo in a shop... thought it was CGI... guess I thought wrong... cool.

Funny thing was that it wasn't just playing on Sony LCDs and I actually thought that the Phillips LCDs looked better. :)

No one has gone down the way-too-obvious easy road pun with this one yet, so I guess I'll have to, "Sony has some kind of balls making an ad like this!"

those are all really cool comments coming from you Rich... you're like the "CG Dude" around here but like the director said, there's just something very natural about doing it for real... and I think he was right.

Very cool behind the scenes stuff. Thanks for pointing that out.

Yeah, the sound was crazy... after watching the commercial it all seemed so peaceful. Boy that's misleading! Those things are loud, and cause some serious damage.

By the way...a bit off topic here....
Did anyone else notice the editors towards the end of the behind the scenes stuff working off a graphic tablet? Were they editing using a tablet? I've never tried that.... hmmmm interesting.

I like the way the behind the scenes actually reveals what true marketing hype the "Color like no other" statement is. No basis what-so-ever on the technology, just on what the consumer wants to hear. Good ad though.

That was so cool.

I can't believe they did that for real. I was sure it was CGI.

People called " creatives" get paid lots of money to sit in a room experimenting with drugs. Well, that's my guess

I've been to SFO a couple times and there's colorful balls bouncing around on the street all the time.

Sorry to bring to life this thread but when I saw it on tv, I believed it was CG.

So why they didn't use CG ? I don't find rational explanation !

---

I noticed too the framerate was : 125 fps (Behind the scenes: It's all about the balls (37 secs))

So, it's about twice the HVX200 maximun framerate. The slowmotion with this camera will be interesting to test.

I wonder how many people got a credit for "ball wrangler" on that shoot?

Just to head someone off at the pass, I do realize that the above reference sounds like it belongs in an adult film, not a commercial!

I went to Toy's R Us to some some bouncy balls today and they told me they sold out. Bastids!

PS: that was pretty damn cool!

I don't know if you referred to me when you said the guy (do not trust the avatar !!) lol :)

But, for the frog, I'm sure it thought: God, wtf, is it the giant dodgeball day ? Not a good idea to make a parkour !!
