View Full Version : .7x wide angle grabs?

Hey everybody. I am considering getting a .7x Century Optics wide angle adapter. I have been searching these threads for a good comparison between two grabs: the DVX without the adapter and the DVX with the adapter. However, I have unsuccessful.
If anyone has any wide angle adapter grabs they could share (side by side with non-wide angle shots would be even more helpful) I could really learn a lot from it.
Thanks!
Rick

if your thinking the ultra fisheye adapter then buy the one for the DCR VX1000 its a hell of alot wider than the new one, and all you have to do is mildly modify the bayo mount.
I use the 6x wide adapter. It works great but you can't zoom all the way through, which can be a pain when shooting on the fly. It zooms in focus to about 80%.
It's got benefits and I always find a use for it but it has drawbacks:
It is useless for closeups of people/faces. The barrel distortion is insane.
If I were you I'd get the 7x.
If you want to see some of my shots with the 6x - check the thread called "music video from Taipei". I posted a couple of days ago. Almost all the outdoor stuff was shot with it.

Check out my test dolly shot at the top on http://2629.com/ It switches back and forth between shots with the 7x on and off.
I shot my zombie film (Plight of the Living Dead) with the 7x on the whole time, and you can see some pretty good examples of edge softness and distortion in a few of the shots. I definately need to trim the ragged edges of the clip off a bit :)

That's just plain disrespectful.
Thanks John, I'm sure there was no disrespect meant, it just gets confusing when people start mixing avatars :)
