I'd be up for a podcast.
Could be fun....
If any help is needed, I worked in radio for years...so I can easily do a cheesy announcer voice.
:)

Sure, but what about a video podcast?
Video? Someone would need a camera for that. Anybody around here have a camera??

Video Podcast, now that would make more sense. Then you have the potential to show other people's work or have people send in pieces to be shown. Or have movie previews, etc. You know you want to do it. If you have time that is.

Actually, I think an audio podcast might make more sense (hear me out before you stone me).
Who wants to watch people's work at ipod video quality?
Who has the time to create a regular video segment?
Audio would be easier and faster to produce... and we could keep a video page to compliment the podcast (i.e. short films, tutorials, etc).
Then again...what the hell am I saying, this isn't my baby.... and the masses seem to have spoken. Bring on the video podcast!

"And now, while Jarred Land and Barry Green take a break talking about the new Panasonic HVXPX42XXGHTYF-800U, here's the new German expressionistic short by _____ that's got everyone going wild all over the net!"
Yeah, it could work!

Screw the iPod. "Podcast" is just a name. Vlogs have been around before Apple jumped on the bandwagon. As far as producing short video segments vs. audio types, Hey aren't we all doing video? Shouldn't it be a piece of cake? It only makes sense since we are all visual folks. I hope. I know there are audio folks here, but our medium of choice is video and our tool of choice is the Dvx. I haven't found a podcast yet devoted to the proliferation of DVX produced material. True there are already many audio podcasts available, but wouldn't it be great if we (dvxuser) could put out a really amazing Video Podcast? There are already thousands of contributors on tap. We have the potential to put out a dope podcast at that, and not something that's all technical and nerdy (although I love those too sometimes) but use it as a really great way to promote the site and its users.
I've learned mucho from this site, I wouldn't mind putting in some time or helping out with putting this together.

How much is an iPod? How much is a decent mic for filmmaking? Which should I buy...hmmm...decisions, decisions. Right.

Hey this is great...how can I help?
My specialty is audio editing, I worked for years at a local FM radio station editing the news and commercials.
I could also provide original music that I would give to the community license free.
I could commit to one 3-5 minuet community show on various DV-X related topics off the top of my head every 2 weeks.
It could get interesting to see reports from around the world as users upload their community reports?

Could this service be access from a sony PSP instead? I am planning to get one. Its directly compatible with Vegas 6.0 and the picture is simply amazing. I saw spiderman on it in the store and wow even the blacks were amazing for a LCD screen like that.
So I would prefer to invest in the Sony PSP if I could.

I think audio would work best...while I agree that video would be ideal I think it might be unrealistic to put together a video podcast regularly (especially given that we're all spread out across the globe).
I mentioned it to Jarred yesterday and he seems into the idea.
Sonisfear, where are you located? I worked in radio also...and I assume that like me you probably don't miss it at all :) But working on a DVXcentric show would be fun...
When you get a chance send me a PM and maybe we can get something off the ground.
i'm in for a video podcast of barry's upcoming hvx book...=D
BOO! Long time no see! Where the hell ya been?

Instead of having a ''Podcast''..why not jus make a special section of the site itself where people can go and download like videos and some audio files regarding filmmaking? instead of going fancy with Apple...
Zach Lien
11-15-2005, 05:21 PM
going fancy with apple? you've got to be kidding me. no more speaking for you
do you not know the benefits of podcasting? or the purpose? good idea- keep it all for exclusive dvx users so that membership doesnt grow. that was a troll comment and it worked on me
sonisfear
11-15-2005, 06:01 PM
The way I see it members would pitch a show idea to the dvxuser team in the same format and style that you would pitch a television station.
The winners would commit to a show segment on various topics say 5 to 15 minuet show a week. This way its not to much work for anybody.
It would be intereting to see the various production styles and lighting technic used by the pros and amatuers across the globe.
Not to mention the content would be interesting. This would be great practise and exposure to aspiring producers like myself.
I think the advantage of using the podcast is the open market to customers outside our community, the potential for advertisements and the distribution engine meaning the logistics in collecting money.

NOPE. 'getting fancy with apple.' i dont understand that. im not like flipping out and angry- but im not joking. i think a podcast is a great idea. just putting it exclusively on this site- doesnt make sense. subscribing to a podcast and automatically getting the files or dl'in them with itunes is awesome. plus- it could get a ton of more members here.

Podcasts (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Podcasting) cost no money to LIST. For the listener/user it usually is free. When they are listed on Apple iTunes they subscribe to the feed and can be downloaded. Apple does not charge for this listing ALSO Apple is not the only place that list podcasts.
http://www.podcastalley.com is one that came out before iTunes. more info (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Podcast_Alley)
Also other programs (http://podcastalley.com/forum/links.php?id=1&sid=1b2c956b4c60b298dffcddb75955daea)/aggregators (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aggregator) can be used, not just iTunes and not just iPods can be used to carry podcasts. There is no need for the podcast to live on such a device. An mp3 or handheld video device is just for convenience.
It will possibly cost money to produce the show, to have server space to host the files. Apple or Podcast Alley doesn't host the files.
Workflow of podcast production:
Write a show
Record Audio and/or Video
Edit
Compress to file format (MP3, AAC, MPEG4, H.264, etc.)
Upload to server
Update your XML files, website, etc.
