I've tried doing a search about 35mm adapter questions I have but the system says that "35mm" is too common of a word. Anyways, I'm working with some people who want to get the redrock micro35. We have about $2000 to spend. Here are my questions:

1. Is there a better adapter than the Redrock?

2. We want to get a couple of lenses. Which brand and sizes should I get?

3. Is there anything else I should consider when getting this?

Thanks. You guys are always helpful.

redrock is good... from what I see is they've been constantly improving their adapter and its starting too look really good...

my only beef with redrock is the build to order process.. there are people out there who haven't received their adapters in over 10 weeks... when redrock still advertises 4-6 weeks. To me a two month turnaround is absolutely ridiculous.

So enter the Guerilla35.... If you haven't heard about it go to www.guerilla35.com (be sure to check out the sample footage) From my understanding its alot better adapter than the m2. Both form factor and image quality. And the good part is it should be coming out within the next month... Johnathan will be posting pictures soon and the new website will be up in a few weeks. He's taking pre-orders then too.

As for lenses, I'm a Canon FD user... from my understanding you can't go wrong with Nikon or Canon... The m2 supports both but at the moment the G35 only supports nikon. Check out this post for some great sample footage of the g35 (one my favorites)

Be sure to read the bottom of his post as it tells you what Nikon lenses he used.

Thanks for the info Cody. I'll check it out.

As for the lenses though, we decided to get either Canon of Nikon, but the problem is we don't know which ones would be the best to get in that group. They make so many different types of lenses, we don't know what to get for the money we have. We want 2 or three different lengths, but we want ones that work best with the adaptors. Any suggestons on model numbers?

Ill Eagle. Which one is Dan's adapter?

Thanks again guys.

Nevermind. I found out what Dan's adapter is...the MPIC.

We only have $2000 for the adapter and all the lenses we need. So $2000 for just the adapter won't cut it.

Thanks though.

Trunks,
Welcome to the 35mm adapter world :). Recommending lenses is a difficult thing. When it comes down to it it's all really a matter of preference. What type of work are you doing? That will largely drive which focal lengths you will need. I can tell you what I prefer.
1. 20mm 1.8 Sigma. (not the best glass in the world, but for $400 it's very sharp)
2. 35mm Nikon 1.4 AIS (great fast all around semi wide lens)
3. 50mm Nikon 1.8 (new lens, if you can get an older 1.4 AIS lens that's nice as well, but you won't get quite the edge to edge sharpness out of the 1.4 as you would out of the newer 1.8
4. 28-70 2.8 Nikon (or other brand) Zoom. You can get everything filled in between with this lens.
5. Also a longer 150mm fast prime might be useful to you as well.

So it really depends on the type of stuff you will be shooting. If you are doing a large amount of interview stuff I've found that the 50/85 (medium/close-up) combo works really well.

As for Nikon VS Canon goes, some prefer one to the other. I will be testing both brands against each other in a month or two (older "affordable" lenses) just to see how they perform. Hope this helps.

Johnathan, this helps alot.

We are shooting an action sci-fi. We are going to be doing alot of different types of shoots. I wanted to get three different lenses that would cover just about everything.

When will your guerilla35 be ready for purchase? We are going to be shooting in January and a 35mm is a must. We haven't decided if we are going to shoot with the DVX or with an FX1 but it sounds like the guerilla35 can handle both.

Thanks.

We will be shipping by January. I can add you to our mailing list so you can preorder when we start accepting. This will assure you a spot in the first round. We can do DVX or FX1 mounts. Just fire me off you email and I can add you.
