Does any one have tips on selling/promoting a Pilot Video?

I have a few show ideas that are in production right now I am looking for advice on promoting it/sales kit.

-what are the rules and format for the kit (eg color bars, credits, tape format,etc)
-any good books on this whole topic
-how to distribute.
-what if they bit what then
-how much do shows (cooking show, health and welness) go for?
