Just thought I'd update my current situation. Also thought Slim and TC would like to hear how the build went. This was my first build BTW.

Well I started around 11:30am today and finished around 5:00pm, including a 30min lunch break :). I think I kinda confused myself a little by working a lil' here and a lil' there. Instead of finishing hooking up my power supply, I'd go off and install the HDs. It went pretty smooth overall. The things that gave me a hard time were probably: hooking up all the power supply cables and trying to keep it organized, and hooking up those small ass connections for (resets, pwr, leds, mic, firewire, etc.).

If you've never built before, I highly recommend it. I have a greater appreciation for the PC.

I'll be posting pics of the setup tomorrow btw.

AMD 64 3700+

Werd.

1 - 10,000rpm 74gb WD and 2 - 7,200rpm 250gb Seagates

As for my budget, I was really trying to keep it under $2500.

So how did you know the proccess? Did you have a guide, or did you just wing it?

I started off by just gathering basic info on this site: http://www.buildyourown.org.uk/

Then I went by the mobo instructions once it came time to build, while incorporating some of the online instructions.

Assembly isn't difficult -- you just have to be careful you don't shock (static), jam, or scratch anything.

It's the selection of components which is the most challenging aspect, to make sure you have a good fit between them. Make sure you have enough power and a case with adequate room -- for ventilation, and also to work.
