this is info was taken from an adobe HD white paper published in 2004:

Panasonic DVCPRO-HD/DV100 format
Panasonic's other HD format is DVCPRO HD (sometimes called D7-HD or DV100), and is based on the same tape shell used for DVCAM and DVCPRO. It supports 720 60p with 1080i24p in development. It is one of the most lightly compressed formats: it uses 1.67:1 compression. It supports 10-bit per channel and eight channels of audio.

is this information correct or out of date? or does the HVX200 use a new flavor of DVCPRO HD which is 8-bit, 4 channels of audio w/higher compression?

That sounds like a load of bollacks to me.

It's always been 8-bit. The tape format supports 8 channels of audio. The HVX supports four because there are only four audio inputs (two from the XLRs and two from the microphone). Also, 1.67:1 is wrong, it's 6.7:1.
