Here's a question for the guru's out there.

I might have to shoot some scenes from my film before the camera arrives do to an actors work schedule.

This actor will sell the film.

So for example on film we use different film stocks a 250 for all the footage shot outside.

And we use a 500 stock for all interiors.

My question is what camera besides a Varicam would be the best match for the HVX?

I might have answered my own question there...

Looking for any suggestions.

Thanks Gary

are you shooting on film or video. I dont understand why film stocks were mentioned. To match the HVX all depends on if you are going to be shooting HD or SD. If you are shooting HD, it is my understanding that the camera shoots DVCproHD which is not "true" uncompressed HD. so you might want to find a camera that shoots in the same format and try to match the colors and picture in post. If I am mistaken on this I am sure someone will tell us in the next reply.

good luck!

No, not shooting film.

I see I didn't make it clear enough... sorry...

If I was shooting film you can get away with different stocks because your interiors can all be shot on one stock and all the shots outside can be shot on a different stock because of the different scenes.

I'm just wondering out loud about mixing two different formats both HD. Would the viewer except the difference because everything inside matches one form of HD and everything outside matches the HVX just like I was shooting film?

I don't see why not. Especially if your color correction plans call for something stylistic. Find a good color and contrast palette for both and It should look pretty good. With todays plug-ins and and processing techniques you could almost match anything. What other camera will you shoot with?

varicam , SDX900 or SPX800, or DVX100. they all have some of the same gamma curves available on them , but youll see differences in lattitude and color space and such .

What resolution were you planning on shooting with the HVX? If your planning on 1080 then you might need to rent a Cinealta. The Varicam will do nicely for the 720 and would probably bump up better, but different than the HVX at 1080.

Good question about shooting 1080p with the HVX, that's what I was thinking.

Now I have to sit back and rethink things all together...

If anyone knows anything about actors let them read the script and they want the roles with more lines... lol...

The well known actor we submitted the script too, was for the role of the bad guy and we only needed him for three days at the most...

Of course now he wants to play the lead male role and bring his friend on board as the supporting male role...

The disadvantage more cost to me... unless we make a deal for scale and they get their normal payments in deferment...

The major advantage with these two guys is that might move us up to getting a better chance at the big screen...

I call it Gary's law now... try and do something big and it ends up being smaller... so you try something small and it ends up being bigger.

Who knows another friend knows someone with a CineAlta package and he thought this guy might trade the use of his package and him being a DP for someone writing him a script...

This guy wants to do his own film... but knows he can't write... so maybe that'll work out...

The more I think about it the studio guys have nothing on us independents we work a lot harder to get are films made...

Give me millions of dollars and I can turn out a film just as good...
