Could you please recommend some good filters for the rebel XT? the lens is the stock lens that comes with the kit.

I sold nearly all my filters a few years ago. A polarizer- a high quality circular polarizer- is a good thing to have. If you plan to shoot with ultra-wide angles, be sure to buy the thin version to avoid vignetting. A grad filter might be good to have- I have one, but I neverr use it.
Most filter effects can be created with greater control in post-production.

I'd say that there are 2 that you REALLY need.
1. A UV filter that stays on the lens AT ALL TIMES.
2. As Fake said, a good polarizer. A Circular pol would be the way to go.
As for brands, B+W is always the best choice.

Thanks guys. Another quick follow-up. Is there a huge difference in quality between B+W versus Canon filters? There is a HUGE price difference, that's for sure.
B+W glass is made by Schneider Optics, which makes some of the best large format lenses around. They're probably the best filters out there. Whether they're worth the extra cost largely depends on your equipment.
The Rebel XT comes in two kit options. One has a 17-85 Image Stabilized lens. The other has the 18-55 lens.
If you have the 18-55, buy a Tiffen or Hoya filter. Frankly, the glass on the 18-55 isn't that great. Having a good filter on it isn't gonna help. The 17-85 is a much better lens and you might benefit slightly from the B+W. However, the difference is slight unless you're doing huge enlargements and sharpness is a primary concern. I wouldn't bother with a B+W filter unless you're shooting with a top of the line L series lens. Keep in mind, you can always take the filter off...problem solved.

thanks for the tip. this camera was a gift for my gf. she loves it and i am sure over time she will want to upgrade the 18-55 lens (she's already started). But, I dont forsee her doing any huge blow ups anytime soon. So, I will steer her in the Tiffen and/or Hoya direction.
Thanks.
