Hi all.
I havent thought about this until now, but like current DV cameras etc, will the HVX200 be able to "act" like a deck, meaning....is the D4 component an IN, as well as an OUT?
Can the camera take in video via firewire and record the tape, or P2?
My gut says this won't be so.....any official words from Jan or maybe Barry?

The HVX will behave just like any other DV camera in DV25 mode. The tape mechanism is only capable of recording SD data rates, so as long as you are talking about DV25 then yes, it can. The component video interface is an analog one and can support all native formats as an output (480/720/1080). I do not know about its capabilities as in input as this wasn't listed as a feature at the time that I saw the camera.

Don't know. My guess is that the component connector is output only; all the low-cost HD cameras are all output-only, none of 'em offer component input so I would guess that the HVX is the same way...

The D4 component output is a digital HD output used on HD DVDs and some displays being sold in Japan. Hopefully it will become a standard like firewire and we'll see some affordable storage devices soon with that connection.
