Very groovy. Are you sure that it's all s8? If so, I would love more details on how it was made. Do you know who shot it, avr?

Whats with all the hair brushing? At dinner, during the set, backstage and everywhere else. Where do I get a hairbrush guy to follow me around?
It looks like reversal that's been well-lit, but that S8 resolution leaves a lot to be desired. Kinda soupy.

I imagine the soupy look is from on-line playback and not the original. I say this because I myself have seen super 8 footage look sharper. I also know that online play back often looks soft in any format.
The color neg (performance interiors) looks quite nice. Stage lighting may have a hint of too much green in it. Black and white footage is nice to look at. I enjoy the cutting back and forth. The color reversal does not seem to hold up as nice on the exteriors (I would consider super 8 neg next time).
Overall the dreamy look is very suitable to the music. I think you made an excellent choice in shooting super 8. Keep up the good work!

You would be surprised how sharp black and white can look in super 8. I shot some with a good super 8 camera. Then shot the same stock in 16. The transfer came out excellent and it is nearly impossible to tell them apart.
As long as the camera, processing, transfer are top quality super 8 can look great.

Yep, Looks like Super 8 to me also. Super saturated colors lacking lots of detail in the texture. This is for sure not DVX footage. Someone hasn't shot enough film to know....
If you think Super 8 should look bad then why is it that the next format up (S16) has better resolution than HD. S8 looks way better than DVX any day of the week. Especially for a music video. It is so much more rich than video. s8 and s16 in my opinion are the perfect music video formats. 35mm is just to clean and sharp to give music video's the edgy texture they need.
People tend to follow technology and forget about the older formats and the older cameras. S8 cameras, bolex's, etc are still capable of producing extremely high quality images. Some filmmakers gravitate toward technology, thinking that is what is going to make us better filmmakers...and its not. (IE. shooting DVX and throwing Magic Bullet on it and trying to fake it as film)

MediaMillita,
I dont shoot on a DVX because Im trying to use the next best technology,
I shoot on a DVX because most bands cant afford super 8 or super 16.
I would shoot on my bolex every day if I could.

I guess I've gotten to the point where I know that the DVX is inferior to s16. Video will never be film...So why try so hard in post to manipulate the look. I flat out refuse to shoot a project on anything but film nowadays. If The project is low budget to begin with and I know I'm not going to get paid squat. Then why shoot it for free to only end up with DVX footage for my reel. If I wanted DVX footage for my reel I would go out and shoot freestyle when ever I felt like it. As of now I am only looking to fill my reel with quality projects. Im looking for the highest quality images to promote myself as a DP. In my opinion DVX just doesn't cut it for me anymore. If the band can't afford it I tell them to save up the money and come back when they are ready. I guess you have to be ready to pick your battles, and turn projects down.
