Sounds like there are a lot more people around here on DVXuser than I thought. I could PM some people who I know from here that live in Austin that haven't seen the thread yet.

I'm 15 years old so I'm not quite the "organizer" for this kind of thing... I hate being young because people always say, "Oh... he's just a kid," and assume I don't have work ethic or knowledge.

I think we should let this thread "marinate," a little longer. We can gather a decent sized group before we decide to do anything.

What I mean is, if somebody drove from Houston to Austin or vis vesa, we wouldn't want them to show up and find only 3 other people.

If we can get a group of about 10 - 20 people, that would be awesome.
Then we can start figuring out how it'll be structured.

Oh, and if you know of any filmmakers in Austin be sure to let them know what is going down.

I think we need to try to decide what we want to do.

1) Meet each other
2) Meet each other and show equipment, etc.
3) Make a short (would require a lot of meetings and gatherings once we planned)
4) Make a feature (*x10)
5) Give BballPlaya283 all of your equipment...

I vote for 1, 3, and 5. :)

Hey everyone,

I'm still interesting in helping organize this. However, i would like it to be a little more organized and content-filled rather than all of us just showing up.

Not to put you in the spot Mr. Sheets (but I will because I know you...:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG) ) but do you think you might be able to find out a location to host us for a day?

I'm thinking we should probably wait till January or February and try to organize it a little better. That way it'll be more worth it for people coming from out of town.

How does that sound?

I say we start gathering e-mail addresses. I can compile it.

PM me with your e-mail address if you are interested in attending this meeting and if you have anything to contribute as far as content.

I'm no guru, but I can contribute with a Music Video seminar and Q&A about making music videos (attack plan, workflow, considerations, etc).

Hey everyone,

I've been doing some research and the Austin Studios rents out a screening and conference room for meetings like ours. You can check out pictures at www.austinfilm.org (http://www.austinfilm.org). I've been talking to Rachel in facilities and the rate is $200 for four hours. So if we can get 20 people, that's only $10 per person.

I'm going there tomorrow for the Austin screenwriters meeting so I can report back with a more detailed report tomorrow, but it sounds like a good set up. We can screen the short films our Texas DVX brothers have made, and run a few short seminars, i.e. workflow, Redrock M2, etc.

Let me know what your initial thoughts are.

Heh, yeah, let's arrange a meeting at BoneDaddy's off of 183 ... have some brews and talk film. ;-)

That said ... Austin Studios sounds great, but for a first, free, casual meeting? Hmmm ... not too sure. How formal are you guys wanting to take this? I guess I envisioned the first meeting being pretty relaxed, rather than a "seminar" approach. Though ... I could be wrong about that. ;-)

I know Hoofandmouf and I are looking to branch out and get together part time film crews, etc. Perhaps we could discuss our upcoming projects and see what we can do about networking in the local area?

aravance

You Austinites can get together at a bar and talk film, that's fine, but if we are going to make this an event where people are going to drive from other parts of Texas for (Houston, Dallas/FW, San Antonio) I'd prefer it being more organized and content filled.

If you will PM me your e-mail address, I will add you to the ongoing roster of people interested in attending an event like this. Once enough people are interested, we can start talking about dates and costs. I'm volunteering to help organize this more 'formal' meeting with the help of Jonathan (JPSheets).

I'm from Austin and have a XL2. I might be willing to collaborate if positions (directing, camera, lighting, audio, assisting) were assigned before hand. I find when you try to collaborate with different people, all with cameras, everyone wants to be be camera operator or director, and nobody wants to do anything else and the collaboration crumbles and everyone walks away. This happened on the last two "collaborations" I volunteered for. No egos either please.

Obviously some people can do the acting too. It's all about getting practice. You're not going for an award. Just something fun you can just prolly throw up on YouTube. Share copies of the footage with each in the group and they can each practice editing it one their own, or pair up or work as a group to edit it as a whole.

What about asking those who are interested... what they want to get out of their local group; austin, dallas, houston.. best times to meet, location to meet, are they looking to be a mentor or looking for a mentor, whether they would like to take part in a monthly video contest/competition with one another in their group, and/or sister sites, do they have a dvx/hvx or other, their goals in the industry, etc., etc., Just a few ideas anyway. Hey I'm going to the IndieClub Gong Show at the Studio Movie Grill Dallas location on Sunday June 21st 6:30pm. It's a showcase of cool short films from Texas and around the world in a fun Gong Show format (as the name implies) It would be a good place to meet other filmmakers and crew in the area, network, eat, drink tasty beverages (brewed or otherwise), and see other movies. Let's meet up and talk indie film!

Here's the website for the event:

shoot me an e-mail if you will be there and want to meet up.

I believe that is actually June 22nd.

This is put on by the Dallas / Fort Worth area Indieclub Chapter. This is the largest IndieClub chapter with over 600 members I believe, granted not all of them are that active.

I believe Collin has an entry showing in this as well as myself.
