thanks ras.
Never seen a 20-80 lens, maybe 28-80?
If you have the 18-70 that usually comes with the D70 kit, that's actually a great lens and is the perfect length for people/fashion photography. Keep in mind that with the magnification factor of the camera, 18-70 gives you a 28-105 equivalent in film camera terms. Between 85-105 is perfect for portraits. It's also got ED glass and should be fairly sharp. If I were you I'd shoot with it until you find a reason to replace it.

asa, i got a 28-80. I bought this package off of ebay. I wanted the 18-70 lenses but it was kinda expensive. At first i kinda wish i bought it.. but after reading the instructions as was able to learn the camera. and I think i got some decent shots out of it. so whats the different between the lenses beside the numbers? I might still buy it if there is a significant improvement from the one i currently have.
here's some photos, of course I touched it up with photoshop.

yeah, I would never buy the other brands. the reason you buy a nikon camera is so you can use nikon lenses.
the lens you bought I would say okay, but the 18-70 is much better. I love that lens. I think buying the 18-70 is worth it.
There are two new lenses that came out for nikon, dx i think, buy i still like the 18-70.

LMAO, yeah lenses cost a pretty penny
Hiro,
The main advantage of the 18-70 is:
ED glass...far sharper than what they put in the 28-80 G series.
True Wide Angle on an APS size sensor (which your D70 has). The 18-70 gives you a true 28-105 equivalent. If you like to do wide angle photography, the 28-80 won't do much on a digital body.
The 18-70 also is a far sturdier lens. Metal lens mount, and I think it's internal focus as well. It also has that super cool M/A switch that will let you tweak the focus even in AF mode.
That said, I've shot with plenty of lenses like your 28-80 with great results. Some of the images are still in my portfolio today (see ruckusarts.com). Good glass will only get you so far...a picture is really only as good as the person behind the camera. A good photographer can get a decent image out of a pinhole camera. Don't let your equipment stand in your way, just learn to get the most out of what you've got.

Asa I dig your photography on Ruckus. And the website design is sweet.
Thanks Isaac...I just finished the redesign last week. It's good to get some feedback on it. Glad you liked the photography...I feel like some areas in the photo gallery are a little disorganized and haphazard at the moment...always something to fix I guess. Many thanks for the kind words though...
