Are there any Panasonic dealers in the USA that take Paypal?
Easier for me to pay that way as the wife will never know the cost!!!

I guess, the advantage of being single is that you don't have to hide anything.

Too true! Looks like the answer to my question is no.

Yeah, I know of one who is part of a group. Everyone in the group takes PayPal and the group includes a marriage counselor and a good quick divorce attorney as well.

Seriously, just contact a seller and ask the question. They may charge you a fee for using this service to cover their costs so just ask their policy on accepting PayPal payments.

keep in mind that on the credit card bill you will probably see something like PAYPAL B&H
with 5995$ or 9995$ next to it, I'm sure the question will be asked...

Steve Shovlar
10-05-2005, 05:00 PM
No I have the funds in the paypal acount. I keep it in there for buying goodies, so the credit card doesn't get touched! I sell on ebay and everything goes for equipment to the feature being shot next summer. But obviously a HVX200 isn't going to pop up on ebay very quickly, so a dealer that takes paypal would be great. as EVS take it I will check them out.
I have dealt with B&H and they are excellent, but everything they send over gets stung with import tax and VAT and handling.

Might buy with paypal, then book a few days in New York or California. the saving will pay for the break! better make sure I get a PAL version though!

Thanks for the info.

We will take paypal for anything that you would like to order and we are Panasonic Authorized. Just goto the website (http://www.spec-comm.com/hvx200.php) and and fill out the form, fax it back, pay via Paypal and your all set. You can save you 2% if you pay in full with a cashiers check though. Just think, an HVX200 for $5389 + 1 free cleaning + free shipping!

We are here to save you money!

B&H takes paypal.

I've dealt with them for some time and somehow missed that. I did notice that their price (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=381410&is=REG&addedTroughType=search) on the HVX is a bit disappointing, so I'll be looking elsewhere.

And Andrew, I have bookmarked spec-comm.com. Thanks for the info.

Hi Steve,

At EVS, we don't require a deposit. No money down, you can walk away from it anytime you want, right up until it's being put on the Fedex truck. We are Panasonic Authorized. The DVXuser price at EVS is $5599 for the kit, and you can pay with Paypal. We will also match the offer of the lowest authorized shipping dealer at the time we ship our cameras, in addition to enrollment in the HVX Club and getting 50% off certain 82mm filters. You will also get 10% over cost on certain Portabrace and Kata bags, as well as shotgun mics. HVX Club membership also entitles you to 50% off P2 Card rentals for 6 months after you buy the camera, with free shipping anywhere in the country for 1 week or longer rentals. That way you can hold out for the bigger cheaper cards, but still shoot HD in the interim. :)

And remember, we placed a very large HVX order with Panny, very early on, so we will be getting a substantially higher allocation than most other dealers.

If you are interested, please email me at rush@evsonline.com for more info.

Something I'd like to clarify, so it doesn't get lost through the cracks: Rush is offering to match the price of any other AUTHORIZED dealer (so no shady Brooklyn rip-off joints, please) who are SHIPPING the product at that time. It's not fair to try to badger the EVS price down because someone else is taking pre-orders at a lower price; if any other authorized dealer in the country is actually shipping the product at the same time that EVS is prepared to ship it, then EVS is offering to match whatever the other authorized dealer is offering. But if other dealers are just promising "oh, we'll get 'em any day now", then that's not an apples-to-apples comparison. If the pre-order demand is as strong as it appears to be, other dealers might be waiting a long, long time before they get their product.

With EVS willing to match or beat any other authorized dealer's price for the same product (and that other dealer actually has the product in stock), as well as giving half off rentals of P2 cards, that's pretty sweet.

I looked on the B & H website and found no mention of Paypal.

Me neither, I just sort of took EA's word for it. I'll check by calling (they're closed right now) and post back.

BTW, early next year there should be plenty of dealers on Ebay that will take PayPal. Most are probably not authorized dealers, but are yet another option. SaferSeas used to be on there at times, had great service the few times I dealt with them, but most of their site seems to be gone if not their business. That's a shame.

If it would be easier for you to pre-order via eBay, we have an auction (http://cgi.ebay.com/Panasonic-AG-HVX200_W0QQitemZ7550501336QQcategoryZ107937QQssPag eNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) on there as well.

Just one more point. Being in the UK, I would be after a PAL version of the camera, as NTSC will be of no use whatsoever. Will either of you two (Spec-comm or EVS) be getting PAL versions of the HVX200 in stock when they come out?

(and a missed opportunity by Panasonic by not following Sonys lead with the ZU1 and have dual format)

B&H Photo takes Paypal. You have to place an order though and it comes up as one of the options for checkout:

(No, I didn't place an order - just wanted to verify I wasn't going insane. Been a while since I've ordered from them)

Actually, there was a thread on DVXUser sometime back, which revealed that SaferSeas was actually a terrible business - they claimed bankruptcy in the end (and may have opened up elsewhere under a new name...)

Oz, thanks for that post!! I didn't see the logo listed at the bottom of their frontpage, and didn't go further.

Now THAT floors me!! I had two really good orders with them, both times from Shawn who was very helpful and knowledgeable, spent a long time with me clearing up confusing issues, sent me everything I needed, etc.

What was really unique was at the bottom of my order, both times, was enclosed 4-5 Tootsie pops (not stale either:grin: ) and a nice handwritten note thanking me for my business. That was just really different. I don't doubt some people could have had bad experiences with them, but luckily I wasn't one of them!

Hey steindj, I was astonished too. They seemed like a good outfit and I'm sure that not all transactions turned out bad since I know others who had similar, good experiences with them like you. Here's the whole thread (http://www.dvxuser.com/V3/showthread.php?t=27837&highlight=Safer) if you're interested in reading it.

And just remembered, Studio-Exchange over in Burbank is another Panasonic Authorized Dealer with a presence on eBay. They can be found here (http://stores.ebay.com/Studio-Exchange_W0QQsspagenameZL2QQtZkm). I purchased my second AG-DVX100A from them; excellent exchange.

Surprising, but I don't doubt any of it. You know, there was one time when I called them in the middle of the week during the day (non-holiday) and didn't get an answer at all. That was strange for what looked like a solid business.

The one place where I had a bad experience was here (http://www.videogearshop.com/). It used to be owned by John Cooksey of Elite Video, who has some good camera work videos. It's now run by one of his former associates. The guy sent me some lighting that didn't work, then gave me this runaround of having me call and e-mail the manufacturer to no resolution. He then, and only very reluctantly, sent another unit that was even more defective than the first. (This after having claimed that he tested it!!!!) I then just returned everything and put it in dispute on my CC. The dispute wasn't resolved for months, but eventually was in my favor. Boy was I glad to be rid of them.

Oz
10-08-2005, 11:17 PM
I've had a few like that too. They always last for months don't they? Which is another reason to just bite the bullet and go with an authorized dealer and *possibly* a bit higher price. But overall, EVS and all the vendors that visit this site are great to do business with. Anyone reading this thread should have a good idea of where to go, what payment options are available to them, including Paypal, and some places to avoid! I think there was actually a thread here sometime back showing some of the scam joints, with pictures of their "storefronts". They were all essentially hovels, holes really, alongside brick alleys with broken windows.

I'll have to dig for that, and would be glad to participate in any updating. Maybe there should even be a "sticky" post on this topic. That could be a real public service to everyone here.

Thanks Barry (as usual)! Great stuff. Although I bet you probably already know about this, I think this (http://www.photo.net/neighbor/subcategory-index?id=2) is also a decent link that in places gives a good rundown on recent problems at a wide range of stores (it seems more geared to still photographers, but has many of the same shops and anybody that would stiff them would also stiff us).
