Oh those crazy AFI people. Next thing you know they'll be releasing a list of their top 100 lists.

Leave it to AFI to fuck it up; it;s all politics. It;s the nly way to explain the films they leave out each year

Chariots of Fire?
Raiders of the Lost Ark?
Casablanca?
Titanic?
Braveheart?

Perhaps I'll be strung up for this... but Lord of the Rings? I LOVE that score.

Yeah, the avatar thing is freaking me out.

Anyway. Planet of the Apes?!?! I love the movie, but the score is a mess. Avant Garde ... does anyone really know what that means anyway?

And I have to agree with TC. The Lord of the Rings scores are amazing. Just because it's newer doesn't mean it doesn't deserve recognition.

But the glaring mistake on this list is the absense of Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Raiders of the Lost Ark

I could not agree more. What a great theme that film has. OTOH, I do agree very strongly with the choices of Star Wars (I am not a fan of the films but the music is outstanding), Jaws - I mean here is a VERY different sonic approach to a film that is highly original and effective to the point of being a pop culture icon - And along with that one is the Psycho theme. And, finally, the Godfather - That music has become the de-facto standard for mob related media.

I have to throw in my 2 cents... most anything by Elfman I love. Man's just crazy. Batman, Nightmare Before Christmas, Big Fish, Chicago, Spider Man, Edward Scissorhands... etc. Not to mention his TV scores (simpsons, etc).

Danny Elfman kicks ass! His Sleepy Hollow score was rock solid as well.

One of my favorites is Mark Isham's score for A River Runs Through It.

Another great score that was excluded is William's score for Schindler's List, which is one of my all-time favorites.
