Hi, i want to shoot a short film in S8 and 16 mm. The 16 mm. camera is an ACL-1 25 fps cristal sync.
which is the best way to record audio? my DVX100 at 25P, minidisc...?

thanks a lot

If your camera has a video tap, then I would recommend recording to your DVX. Send the video tap to the DVX's video input and send the output of your mixer to the audio inputs. This way, you have dailies that you can view (with sync sound) as well as you have a way to do a virtually zero cost offline edit. As long as the camera is crystal synced, you should have no problems.

If this is a personal project, as long as you have a very good mic, you can record with your dvx just fine.

I also recommend just using the DVX if that's what you've already got. I shot a commercial in 1989 with a crystal-sync Arri BL and U-matic VCR for sound. All the film folks tried to talk me into a Nagra, but what I used worked perfectly. (And we even had playback for a dance number done the same way.)

Earl, did you already test the uncompressed PCM of your HD100?

Do you think that isn't necessary to double the sound with 16bits 48Hz, of course if this audio workflow will be enough to 35mm film-out@big_screen from HD100? What's your bet?

I haven't yet, but it's something I'd like to look into.

I have a Nagra. It's great! If you can't afford it, use a minidisc.

FR2 is a flash recorder not DAT but otherwise correct.

As a sound guy I would hate to tell you to record sound on the DVX but it will be stable and it has decent audio in and if you already have one.... The issue that may come up is in post, like how are you getting the sound into a format that will work with the film. If you going to edit the film on video you will have the the whole Video speed VS film speed problems.
