This was done on daylight, positioning the model girl exactly where i wanted so i used the walls as reflectors. The light did not hit her directly but from the diffusion of the concrete. That is all the secret.
Done in vegas, with the help of the G35 and a 50mm nikon lense except fot the wide shot and the close up shot.

Excellent work. This now reinforces my urge to go buy an FX1.

The only thing I'm offended by is not having the option for the uncensored.
Nice work. Crystal clean.

There is an option of the uncensored version, however if you give me the ok, i will post it.

What was censored? How about both versions with a warning for the uncensored one so people can choose?

Do it man. We're adults. There is nothing wrong with this. Nothing at all gratuitous
Just post proper WARNINGS for the prudes
Just watched it on my father's laptop. His comment was " Doesn't look very high definition around the tits!" - LOL.
He then asked "Is there any point in this video, or is it just to get yourself a naked model for the day?" :)....well?
My comments - Looks fantastic, on both counts! You certainly know how to get the best from the FX1!
I agree with John too, loose the fuzz :)
BTW, what film effect filter do you use to get the "end of reel effect," I want it!

3000 hours of Z1U footage this summer and NO NUDITY in any of it. Post the unrated version for a repressed fellow HDV operator?

Looks great Macgregor. Can you tell us more about this project? Where'd the idea come from?
Your G35 setup is pretty sweet. Have you done any filmout tests yet?

hmm, I don't quite get it but it looks really freakin clean! I hate to say this but the model sort of looks like a boy. I don't mean that in any disrespect. But your footage looks tight!

If sheīs a boy, then Iīm Michael Jackson.
Hey, macgregor, what software did you use to deinterlace? Gimme you opinion about something Iīm thinking about a lot lately: for a filmlook result, would you buy a sony Z1 over a DVX100b (when it comes out, sure)? I think you experienced both cameras, am I right? Which one works better for such purpose?
thanks!

G35 vs M2 war!

Great footage, macgregor. Where did you record it? Here in Spain?
macgregor

Hello.
I usually use CF25 with the FX1. I think it gives great results and it is better than deinterlace in post (less compression, better render times).
However since some of this images are in slow motion, this was recorded at 50i. So later in post, i created real progressive images at PAL resolution.
Some shots are at 100% speed, but since there is almost no movement, i did not deinterlaced, so i still had 1440x1080 pixels (1st for example).
I would prefer to buy right now the FX1 instead of a dvx100b, because it is cheaper and i can get better images if treated properly. However if you do not want to spend time in post resizing from HD to PAL, buy the dvx100.
I would not buy the Z1, the difference in price is to high, the difference in quality is none. XLR inputs, yeah, but for seriuos jobs i would use a sound recorder with DAT or similar.
Dante, i did this in Madrid.
Bye!

VERY WELL EDITED!
There is a effect at around 1:05, with this redish tint running around, how did you achieve this please ?
Thanks,

The end of roll effect is not difficult.
Try making an animated secuence of just the glow and then multiply it. Change speed for different results.

Macgregor, do you prefer using the guerilla35 with the Sony better or the panasonic DVX? You have any new DVX+G35 footage? Thanks

Very nice. Had I to choose between the m2 and the g35, I would choose the g35 hands down. It has a more fluid focus than other adapters. On another note, I noticed that the model wasnt moving forward or backwards. Is that because of the difficulty to focus at such an extreme depth of field?

I did test with both cameras. I will stick with the sony (less grain, more resolution).
The model was standing still because it is what i wanted. But focusing is a hard thing by the way, since you have a 50mm at f1.4

Very nice work! The mood is very good!
Some questions:
1. which music is that?
2. how did you made these wonderful soft flashes?
3. did you have special settings (gamma etc.) in your camera?
4. exposure: how did you expose the images? Are the highlights pushed in post?
5. do you expose with flat gamma and make the contrast in CC?
Greetings

Some questions:
1. which music is that? CODE 46 soundtrack
2. how did you made these wonderful soft flashes? itīs a secret... (i explained before)
3. did you have special settings (gamma etc.) in your camera? Nothing at all.
4. exposure: how did you expose the images? Are the highlights pushed in post? It has almost no manipulation in post. Some level correction.
5. do you expose with flat gamma and make the contrast in CC? As i said, they are almost original images. The highlights are a little bit blue, and the black level has been down to zero. That is all.
Greetings

I didnīt mean the roll out effect - I mean the white flashes (havenīt I seen your post on this?)
Do you have some recommendations concerning movements and handling details (like leaves, other fine structure)? I shot a first little test w/o a 35mm adapter, so the Mpeg compressor has so much to do with these overall sharp images.

THe only problem i am experiencing is that when going to slow motion at 50% deinterlacing fields, i can see some kind of flickering in the red color. Why? I donīt know. But mos importat, does anyone know how to fix it?
bye!

Just a thought, but you could try applying the color stabilizer in AE on only the red channel, it is designed to reduce flicker...

Probably the best way to fix it is a plug in called Twixtor. Will give you the smoothest slow mo you will ever get without using a variable framerate camera.

It's from Sigur Ross.

No, it is not sigur ros. It is the soundtrack of the movie Code46, and unless Sigur ros changed their name for that movie, other band appear in credits.

O, oke, I thought it was very similar of one of those great songs from Sigur Ross.
You are right about it, they are not credited at the ost. So i had it wrong.
By the way, I really liked your both last works.

The white flash is a transition in Vegas. If your using Premier / AE you can use this free plugin. (http://www.buena.com/ee/cameraflash.shtml)
Finally if you need to correct more than transitions without using a plugin, DV Magazine wrote up this article (http://www.dv.com/news/news_item.jhtml?LookupId=/xml/column/meyer0305) a while back.
Hope that helps.

Great films.

That last video was shot in HDCAM with a Sony 750P camera. So, no, I'd assume he wasn't shooting in a CF25 mode. :)
Does look great though... you're right about the lighting, very impressive.
macgregor
11-14-2005, 12:45 PM
Yes. As you can read, last video wasnīt shot with a Sony FX1 but with a "little bit more expensive" Sony 750p. It was then converted to miniDV and then to quicktime.
Arcwave
11-14-2005, 04:43 PM
Ahh ok. I bet an FX1 can pull something like that off with the right lighting and G35 though.
