Hey chaps. New DVX user. Used it for emergency documentary in North Africa and it looks beaut. Got a problem. Bought the camera back to london and just switched it on in an idle moment and it seems to have a detectable humming/ motor noise that I haven't noticed before. This seems to go away the moment I switch to video mode.

Is this normal? i.e. is it because I switched the camera on in an exceptionally quiet room or is it something a little more sinister? Would love your feedback

I can't make out a hum on mine, but it's really hard to say for sure with that bloody clunking all the time....

If I can stop the clunking, I'll get back to you.

Yeah. now that we are on it - what IS that clunking sound? Adds to the character of the camera I suppose.

haha... I can't tell if you're kidding or not.

And yeah, I also have a slight humming. It doesn't matter much because usually I'm using a boom mic, and I'm pretty sure the on-cam mic doesn't even pick it up much. I imagine it varies from one DVX to another.

"Does your camera make a humming noise? "

Mine does, but only when it doesn't know the words to the song.

If the humming only last for 1 second , then it should be the self-cleaning action , it is O.K.

Thanks guys. Think I've solved it. Got another DVX junkie, round the corner to compare hums (a very scientific operation I tell you) and he says its standard - so Panasonic baby's certified clean and ready for action... where's dem fatigues!

Yea, I think we figured you'd realize it wasn't any problem, but it's always nice to go listen to another just to be sure....

At first I thought I heard a hum, but when I poked my head around the corner to see, nothing. Then the other morning I heard it again, and there it was flitting from flower to flower!
