This is admittedly over the top in effects but it's still kind of cool. I just got my hands on Magic Bullet Editors for Premiere Pro 1.5 and used most of the Misfire suite for this comparison.

The same shot twice. The first one is untouched, direct from the camera (taken at Rialto Beach in Washington) and the second has a host of Misfire effects attached. Kind of looks like something from a 1920s or 30s era horror flick scene. *:)

It's funny you should mention the Ring. When I was adding that effect it reminded me of some of the scenes from the video in the film, which I'm sure was shot on Super 8.

haha. exactly. I love your usual work. But maybe we could see "The Dark side of Disjecta" with a bunch of shots like that.

keep up the good work.

Some of the coast on the Olympic side of Washington is perfect for shooting that kind of dark feeling. I got a bunch of shots like that. There's nothing like a wild beach and twisted driftwood to add a little fright to your shots :D

nice. I love that look.

So just in case you thought I was all about ducks and beautiful vistas...check this out. It's amazing how sound can make things even more dramatic!

All I need now is the zooming titles boasting the TERRIFYING scenes to come!

Cool, a human.

Have you seen the filmClutter CD's? Its a collection of end burns ,grains, flashes, light leaks, scratches etc.. from film that they captured and turnded into QT's.

Cool, a human.

:D Hey, I like humans. Just not when they get in my frame ;D

Yes, I have seen that CD but Magic Bullet does all that and more. Plus, you can change every single parameter to make it look totally unique.

Everything Disjecta does is cool looking. Now he just has another toy to make cooler looking things :)

Post some settings for the magic bullet stuff. Also, how much was the editors version? considering getting it myself.

Oh you are just too nice * :D

The full cost is $299 but, because I own the After Effects Magic Bullet Suite, the upgrade cost was $149

The settings for Misfire are all set to default with only the following parameters enabled:
Fading
Dust
Flicker
Vignette (this is really cool, darkens the edges)
Micro scratches
Grain
Post Contrast

For the settings on the camera, I really don't remember. It's 24pa and I did not white balance, I just left it at the default daylight setting which was very slightly off but I liked it better. Did some critical focussing on the tree at full zoom then shot at full wide. Pedestal for me, at this stage, is pretty much -4, which is my favorite setting....I vary that slightly based on the kind of shot I'm getting.

The chroma is set to +4 and most of the other settings are at the default for f6 and, if I remember correctly, the ND setting was 64, it was a very glarey sky which allowed me to get the tree in silhouette.

disjecta, hows your rendering time with Magic Bullet. I find it takes a long, long time to render.

disjecta

Nice creepy look... :)

PFP: The rendering time takes true patience. I calculated it to be about a minute of rendering to every second of footage. I'm running it on a 1.6gb laptop.

disjecta that stuff looks amazing, very eerie and shot awesomely. Reminded me of The Ring to. Just rendered a 30 sec clip, only added color reversal. 15 mins for 30 secs. Reminds me of the early days of non linear editing. Now that im spoiled with fast render times, patience perfectly describes what you need when waiting.

I have to say this. I am amazed by the quality and looks I get with Magic Bullet Editors in FCP. Yes, it does take long to render but the results are beautiful. I have been experimenting with some of the presets and I would have to think that a lot of time was spent coming up with the "looks". Not only can you use the "looks" that are included, you can also tweak each parameter of each, the results are endless. Also, I have noticed that the filters applied to the DVX footage look astounding compared to what I have tested with various footage from the XL2. Since I don't own an XL2, I can't say that the footage is bad but I know when I had my XL1 and XL1s, post filters applied to the footage never looked as good as they do with the DVX. Why? I can't explain it. Talk about a filmic look, with the 24p from the DVX and Magic Bullet, it's no wonder Panasonic decided to throw in this software. I'm glad I bought my DVX100A when I did!
