What a rip. XL2 to XLH1 same body, lame. Bet a lot of R&D went into that transition.
Whatever.
XL2, XL1, DVX, Sony, blah blah blah, 1080i, 24p, Blah blah blah, tapes, no tapes, blah blah blah. Sheep. Baaaaa! I am a sheep. Baaaaa!
Moving to HVX just because. The only reason I'm getting it is cause it's ugly looking. I like what everyone hates about it. Who the hell cares what a Cam looks like. I'd rather shoot a movie with a block of cheese if it worked. Less attention the better.
"Somebody's having a bad day"
Blah blah blah. Can't wait to hear some blah blah replies.
Content. Period. That's all that matters.
Curious, how many HVX groupies have a script ready? just curious.
A lot of people on this forum remind me of my childhood neighbor, HAD TO HAVE THE BEST EVERYTHING, never used most of it. It's an addiction and it can't be fixed.
Guess I'm just having a shitty day. I'm sure this post won't make it any better. Whatever.
Dive down the rabbit hole people! Blah blah
Really though, I'm sorry for this terrible post, I should be shot for it!

Makes sense to me, from the angle that a lot of people are having heated discussions about cameras that aren't even out yet, and any of the cameras will in reality probably be fine tools for video acquisition at this price, at this time. I'm still enamoured with my DVX, even with it's DV tape mechanism and SD resolution. Things can only get better... we hope. I like the block of cheese solution.

Content? What's that? we don't need content. We are consumers and fall for marketing hype and that is all we need to make movies. Give us a HVX or any other "HD" camera or anything that says HD and we will make movies damn-it. Lot's of them. :)

Funny a few months ago folks were complaining cause they bought a DVX and were in debt now and were wondering if they needed lights cause they don't have any money to buy them. But now it's the HVX. Only question is how are you going to afford it? Or as I said in another thread, why bother, you already have a great camera that can make great pictures.

The same reason you've shot on a CineAlta and a Varicam.

You are right that there are assuredly a lot of people that get caught up in marketing hype and the excitement of new technology and ideas. Maybe that's a bad thing if people are making unresearched or unplanned purchases, or worse, purchases they can't afford. But heaven forbid people are also excited about new technologies and ideas that push new advancements; there is a good side to that coin, too.

The HVX is pretty expensive and it might be out of reach for a lot of people. But there are also a lot of people who make a living with their shooting, and like any other tool, it's just an expense that will hopefully pay for itself through its use. Perhaps some people are jazzed about the HVX because of its HD capabilities, but I'm with you in the thought that HD is still a little ways off and the usefulness of its inclusion won't provide worthy for a little bit down the road. However, the combination of DVCPRO50 / 4:2:2 acquisition in SD and P2 recording both far outweigh the benefits of the HD aspect of the camera - at least for now, anyway - and I think that those features alone will really add to the efficiency and quality of the work I produce. I cannot wait to go tapeless, and assuming that the quality of the footage that comes out of the HVX is up to snuff (and indeed that still remains to be seen), I fully welcome these new improvements with open arms.
