So here's a work in progress. It's one of 5 pieces I'm doing based on my trip around Olympic National Park in Washington...

I threw in some subtitle narrative this time round to give some context.

This one has DVX footage and my wife's photos mixed in although it's mainly DVX. The photo movement was done in Premiere Pro 1.5. The shot through the large piece of driftwood towards the end with the deep blue sky is not a photo, it's from DVX footage.

I included some humans in this one (shock, fall over dead!). It's actually me in one photo and my wife wielding her EOS10D and 400mm canon lens around in the others. Oh, and that's also my wife in the first shot *:D

All ambient sound was shot with the built in microphone on the DVX...

File was compressed using Sorenson Squeeze as usual and is approximately 26mb

edit: I'm making some significant revisions so I have pulled the file. Watch out for a new version soon.

This was beautiful Disjecta...

the last shot really just give me the creeps! It's fantastic.

If I had to comment on it I'd say that the still pictures inclusion stand out too much... I guess because of the nature of your work, your locked landscape shots, I kind of see your video work as photographs already! Your wife's shots, although beautiful, just make me think there is something wrong... Maybe is the smooth crossfades I dunno, it really seems strange to me. have you tryed including them in rougher transitions/cuts?

And I just think in terms of narrative, it would have worked out better if this was shot and edited as a documentary about your wife's photo shoot, you know? (Not without the serenity and rhytm you managed to get) More images of the preparation, more images of the operation of photo equipment, searching for shots, etc... The way it is her entrance with photo equipment seem a little pushed.

thank god you just manage to get amazing imagery, to make every previous comment almost irrelevant! ;D

I think you make some good points and this was a joint venture but there were not a lot of photos at this point of the trip. I'll have to step back and look at all of it when I'm done and then assess what works and what doesn't.

I certainly do appreciate your frank comments, that's what makes all of us see our work more objectively and, hopefully, make it better.

True. Your wife took some pictures of birds in the sand that I would die to see them go... I hope you can make it work a little better!

I made some minor edits that make some of the photos flow a little better and I'm considering a voiceover instead of the subtitles...I'll probably work on it some more this weekend.

Good asusual. I still was not able to see the whole film. Twice I tried but it stopped halfway throuh at the same spot. Voiceover is definitly a better idea than the subtitles. I will write more of my thought after i see the whole movie.

I'm revamping the entire thing, also using a voiceover. It's going to be more like a combination of something you would see on the Travel Channel and Discovery.

I've already got my local cable channel interested in some of the Water's Edge stuff so there may be more to come.

I'll post the new version when I'm done which I anticipate won't be for a while.

Thanks for taking the time to take a look. In the meantime, I'm pulling this version.
