Hi folks ,
This was more a job than a labour of love for me - so not expecting the kind of feedback I received on my previous projects.
Im just sharing some dvx footage of a live dub band called " gaudi "
They play reggae & dub with alot of world influences - I was hired to put a promo together which represents them live for their upcoming world tour spanning from asia - austrialia - europe & states/canada - so literally global ;D
I shot this at one their recent shows here at a big festival in england / dorset.
The original file is waaay to big to upload the whole 10 min promo - so I have uploded a couple of sections.
I shot & editied this a few months back & thought - might as well share more dvx footage with you dvxer's.
here's the links:

cheers;)
They were pleased with the final thing & has already secured lots more gigs through out this year as well as airtime of the promo on some tv stations.

Cheers donbarzini *;)
The cc is something that played a major part in giving each track an identity. The lighting was terrrible at the festival - so the neutral look gave me alot more scope in post to crank the color.
The band are performing at the Colosseum Rome this sat - what a venue to perform at !
Its part of a one off show with a line up of bands - gaudi has quite a following in italy although the music is'nt my cuppa.
Anyway cheers for the comments :)

some good stuff there! the aspect ratio appears to be off though, it looks like its was 16:9 squished to 2.35:1 ..everything just looks squished to me?

Hi Rich ,
The intsrument he was using, is called a ' theremin ' it works on radio waves & was invented by a russian dude in 1917 - used on soundtracks etc ie: the haunting melody in ' the original start trek series from the 60's - mad instrtument that sounds like a human voice screaming like the wind.
You play it by not touching it all - just waving - pretty freaky - im sure some peeps here no what alot more than I do on it.
Anyway cheers - when I get back on the music - Im hoping to follow up the raver tune with a vol:2

Hi iamloser,
That is correct - it is squished indeed.
I went thru a few looks with the manager of the band - to get an angle on what their end product should look like.
I squeezed the image on a few shots, just to experiment - they wanted something a bit tripped out & psychedelic so, I tried distorting the image on certain shots with distort & fisheye filters.
The manager loved the looked of the 50% squeeze which automatically produced the 2:35 ish matt - so I just went along with what kept them happy.
I wasn't sure at first but I had to get the project done before they started touring so as along as they were happy - I was cool 8)

Rich,
Yep, I am music producer/ sound designer - have been for the last decade or so - if you do a google search on ' acen + music ' you will get alot of info on my history - I put out alot of records in the early 90's - rave breakbeat stuff - which progressed into more faster d'n'b stuff in the late 90's - I have produced alot of remixes for other acts etc also.
I got into filmmaking / editing when I decided to shoot my own music video & from there I got hooked.I did goto a film school in 1990 but the music scene stole my passion for film - so now I guess Im back full circle.

I think your treatment really did justice to the whole vibe of the band.
Anyone who works tablas and theremins is OK in my book! Hey, I play Arabic and Moroccan beats in a belly dance troop, and have been thinking about producing something akin to what you've done. Good work!
