yup I'm in chicago, though I've been sick for the past few weeks, at least i've had time to set up my crap... Don't worry you can be the "original" loser.
Maybe there should just be a "Mid-West" user group, that never meets! I nominate you as the captain, anyone second it?

If you guys could wait for like a 3-day holiday weekend, I'd come out for that. Lafayette is only about 2 1/2 hours from the border of chicago. Although, on a holiday weekend, it'll probably be more like 3. There's always construction on i65 and i90

hey,

i'm in chicago and have been thinking about trying to get a "real" group of dvx users - mainly in hopes of finding people much more skilled than myself to weasel info off of.

if anyone is interested in trying to actually get together - to try some shoots or just oogle each others cameras, no meeting minutes necessary, let me know.

If there's any real interest we can try and arrange time/place etc. and determine how often anyone would want to do this.

As far as who the main loser is, I'll leave that up to you guys.

Maybe we should take the word "Loser" out of the thread title and more people might be interested.

still no one?

Hey Dudes!

I'm a DVX newbie 30 minutes west of Chicago, who'd love to meet up with some other users/abusers!

Are any of you cats going to the bootcamp in Chicago? I'm such a loser, I'm going to it on my birthday! :)

I've got a great script that I'm directing and am posting a "DP needed" ad on mandy soon. It's a short, and the writer has/is writing features with one in production and several in pre; he's good and this is going to be an exciting time. We're shooting in Bloomington, 2 hours south of Chicago and I'm definately interested in having a Chicago meet, especially if it will help me make some contacts.

keep me posted or messege me if you want help organizing.

gee, thanks ed, i'm honored :zombie_smiley:

I would be the organizer assuming what that actually means.... If it involves any sort of math then i'm the wrong guy -

if its just finding a place and posting that info on here i would take that on.

if we do these meetings, what are they going to be? just us leering at each others cameras, or a networking thing to meet other camera/filmmaking people?

I'd like to do this if its going to be a chance to share resources - like we help each other out on shoots we want to do - or even make some attempts at shooting some short fiilms in a coop sort of way.

what do you guys think?

Greetings. I may have a place. It's a small (very) theater where my business partner teaches acting. It's on W. Irving Park Rd. We have a DVX and 2 HVX's. Also, we know a couple guys who have the JVC HD100. I would also like to check out a Canon HL X1. It's not necessary of course, but it would be cool. Reguardless, I'm in. This is only one option, but let me check into it.

John Wesley,
I'm in provided it works with my work schedule (which sucks - evenings and saturdays). Could do any Sunday or late afternoon on saturdays.

you're welcome for the nomination.

a lot of things can be accomplished when resources are pooled. i've found from personal experience that when it comes to organizing a shoot, friends are not the best people to depend on. if we were to get togethor every once in a while at least we'd have a pool of people who are dedicated to the work. i know that i'd be willing to lend a hand whenever in exchange for a little hands on experience.

If everyone agrees, I have a place we can meet, we just need to agree on a day. Sunday's are good for me, plus traffic is not bad. My partner is on a film shoot 'till the end of the month but we could certainly organize after that. Anybody else know any Chicago filmmakers around here?

hey all,

sunday wouldn't be ideal for me, I'd prefer a weeknight so that might leave me out as the "organizer" though it seems John might take that role on.

So, whatever the majority decides I would do my best to attend whenever the meetings happen.

On another note - anyone taken any classes at Chicago Filmworkers, I'm thinking of taking one of their lighting courses to shore up one of my biggest weaknesses as a filmmaker/cameraman.

Anyone who knows anything about them would be great so I know if its worth the cash or not. Here's the link:

When it comes to hands on training, I'm all for it. The cost of this class is next to nothing compared to what you'll take away from it.
Beg ,borrow, or...... beg for the money to take this class, and make sure you attend every class.
There are other schools, there are other programs, but this one is closest to you. Short of working on an actual set, this is great, practical experience..go for it..

im actually taking one of their digital moviemaking class. I've only taken one class (my current class) but the teacher has some background and he knows what hes talking about. Although the people there, are mainly there to see if they like the whole film thing and really want to commit their time. I was thinking on taking their lighting course when it comes up.

It would be great collaborating with fellow dvxusers

We could do it at my place, 2254 Logan, by Wester, Diversay and Elston, but it is good for a dozen people at most. There is a BBQ joint across the street that is never full and has room for more, not to mention the food is great! Fat Willy's Rib Shack at Schubert and Western. Anyone that's interested in either location send me an email at roger@rogerbeck.com and we'll see if we have a meeting. If we do it here there is a 37" LCD available for showing work.
