Hi Guys,
I am new here. Would like to share some frames from the short film we are finalizing "the script". It was shot under low light conditions and has some grain on it. hhmmm * Although the atmosphere should be darker as a noir film it got not as sharp as I woukd like. Well, first time using the camera, will get better next time. :)
Here we go:

Hi Daniel,
The grabs look great. Probably in a big screen you could see the grains in great detail.
What was the gain you used?
All the best

Actually, I like it...
it's kinda retro....with the low saturation and grain.
It looks intentional....lol
Anyways...good work, can't wait to see some motion.
Anyway, what were the technical aspects to your shoot?
(lighting, scene file, post effects, etc.)

Thanks guys! *;D
I directed the whole thing and did not follow all the technical setups of the camera, the DP/cameraman did, will check with him if any gain was used.
I know it was shot in 24pa, we used one fresnel 1k and 2 650w, one of the 650 was used as fill light to light up the dark areas, the 1k and other 650w were used as key light for both actors. The ligthing setup was quite simple, we used the ligth over the table to set the direction and litgh/shadows. *All other decorative light compositions we used normal incandescent 60w lamps.
We had issues with the red shirt, it was a silk shirt so it overexposed. In post we desatureted around 20-30% the whole thing, as also part of the aesthetics and some minimum corrections in contrast/brightness were made.
We did not edited in 24fps, instead as the work is mainly directed to DVD and festivals and will not be transfered to film, we kept it in 30fps. Anyway the look is 24p.
Will post the footage ASAP, although it is in portuguese, but worth a watch as for the camera moves and some fx.

When I watched the grabs on my computer at work, I couldn't see the grain, but at home I can see it now.
Now I know what you meant.
I love the third image from the top. It is a nice shot.
Anyway, post the film when it is ready.
All the best
Fidel
PS: O cara de verde e actor de novela? Tenho a impressao que ja o vi antes.

This looks like one of the old good national films of the eighties. Have you seen "A Dama do Lotação"?
The art direction is really cool combined with the old style lighting (Fresnels) and color reproduction/grain.
This really looks like the color stock people used in the late 70s and early 80s. It's very nice, man. Anyway, not sure if the guy is a telenovela actor. Really don't know his face. The first one on the first grab had some "overweight Tarcisio Meira" thing going on...
BTW the grain really should be popping up on the moving images. You probably had some gain going on there, I'd guess more than 9 dB.

Yes, it reminds me those movies from the eighties. I haven't seen "A Dama da Lotacao". Is it any good?
As for the first shot, yes he does look like Tarciso Meira.
Anyway, all the best

Well it's nice. (Sonia Braga é uma gostosa e dá pra todo mundo...). But not a true classic like the good ones, such as "Deus e o Diabo" or "Rio, Zona Norte". But pretty good considering Brazilian films of the 80s...

Yes, she certainly is a gostosa.
Do you know of any online brazilian store that ships movies to the other side of the globe?
All the best

Man, if you know of any, please tell me.
Since we were never too crazy about home video (only location), we never developed an internal industry. Brazilian films are hard to find, especially those of the pre-DVD era. It's certainly a bummer, but it's what it is... Old Brazillian films are very hard to find. Most I see over at my university... Others you just have to borrow from teachers and stuff. It's really a shame...

Yeah, I have noticed that. I managed to get some of the new ones only. I loved "O auto da compadecida". Very funny. Chico and Joao Grilo. Very funny characters.
Anyway, if I come across any site, I'll let you know.
All the best

Yeah, very funny!
There's another on the same line, "Lisbela e o Prisioneiro". I think it's from the same director. Also on DVD.
And thanks I'll try to see if any brazilian stores ship worldwide. (I take you can playback Region 4 DVD's...)
Cheers!

Haven't seen that one yet. I have a multi-region DVD. So there isn't any problem. Actuallly, "O auto da compadecida" is a region 4 DVD. My ex-girlfriend brought for me.
Anyway, I'll keep an eye on the sites.
All the best
