yup i just got my camera a few weeks ago and couldnt be happier with it. i'm going to be shooting some short narratives and also a feature documentary, but the last week or two, i've just wondering around philadelphia testing out the camera and seeing what i can get out of it. here are a few screen grabes. Everything was shot at F5 and without a tripod. Check them out and let me know what you think.

Philadelphia was also based in Philadelphia.
For some reason the 2nd pic really looks digital, while the rest look much more filmic.

Very nice stills.
Philadelphia was also based in Philadelphia.
The fourth one reminds me that 12 Monkeys was also shot in Philadelphia.
I'm from Philly, too, but I live out in the suburbs.
I like the first and last alot. What is the building that's in that last one?

That's City Hall, complete with the statue of William Penn on top.
(I guess I could let Andrew answer for himself, however.)

You know, I'd love to have a $3500 shot of Billy Penn from BenFranklin PKY -- You know the shot I mean!!! LOL
I too am from Philadelphia. Childhood in Narberth and adulthood in Center City. Mom still lives downtown. I love my home town.
Thanks for the shots.

hey thanks guys, yea i grew up in west chester, and moved to the city for school. Thats a lot of really cool place to shot in philly. i ride road bikes and have explored all over the city looking for cool stuff. Thats some really neat stuff in north philly around temple, but without a police escort i dont think i would pull out my DVX.
oh and "You know, I'd love to have a $3500 shot of Billy Penn from BenFranklin PKY -- You know the shot I mean!!! *LOL " i actually did shot that, hahaha, i just didnt post the grab because i didnt like it very much (it was getting kinda late).

Ah -- Hootcrew... a reference to Temple. *Fight Fight Fight for the Cherry and the White.
That's where I went. *Second week there a kid was shot across Broad St. *However, my chair was usually down on Pine Street. *Used to be a whole in the wall call the Pine Street Beverage Company. *Old gal Sal behind the bar. *Think she ended up in jail. *Anyway, I saw the sign still down there as late as last year. *13th and Pine somewhere.

CaptainMench, actually hootcrew refers to something else, but then i ended up at temple and everyone thinks it means temple.
13th and Pine eh? i live fairly close to there now, i like this part of town a lot. Did you go to temple for film? if so how are you making out with that?

I misss philly, Im from there (well, actually jersey just across the bridge). here's my latest...
http://www.eastofsunset.com/video/
Above is a link to a music video we're using as a trailer. The footage is not color corrected. More info about the film is available there on that site, and also here:

We're pretty much done w/ the post sound mix, color correction and opening titles. I'll see if I can recut a teaser trailer from the color corrected footage.
I'm debating "leaking" a dvd or two of the completed film out to any other serious filmmakers who want to see what the camera is capable of in the hands of a good DP (not me). My arm could possibly be twisted by a sympathetic soul.
Every song in the music driven feature is written by Tom Waits and performed by artists such as [the] caseworker (the music video), Frente, Drugstore, Pete Shelley, Lydia Lunch and others. See what you think.
Hope to see you on the festival circuit soon!
Thanks!

LOL. *I shoot in Philly all the time...Broad & Olney, Dauphin and if you think that little area around temple is bad try 52nd and Girard. *Word is bond I was there today shooting with the DVX and the XL2 wit the whole neighborhood out...Blazin'! *And I didi'nt even have a police escort. *LOL, police escort that's rich. *You need to develop a don't fuck wit me grill and dress appropriate and you can shoot anywhere.

one night i got lost somewhere around 52nd and girad, its the most shaded out i have ever been. *got a question for oyu cinebuddy, where you out shooting trollies the other day with your Xl2? my one roomate who is trying to get an XL2 said he saw someone with an XL2. figured good chances might have been you.
Do you do a lot of video production in philly? I go to temple so i'm always looking for some connections in the business.
