A buddy of mine shot this film "Toxin" recently. Take a look at the trailer, I'm sure he'd love some feedback.

Looks really good. Do you know how he went about doing the slow-mo. Also it seems like there should be some more punch in the gun SFX. It sounds like production sound in the trailer.
I know this is minor, but I think it said, "WILL BE DISCOVERED ..." twice. ???
Otherwise, feels pretty polished. Is this destined for TV? Video? Festivals? It looks like this one had a decent budget ... ;)
Really hot looking trailer. How was it shot? To me it seems to have a very "video look" to it. The action seems hot and I love the locations like the airplane hanger and the great looking swat guys. I also like the first half with the story set up and the shot of the bug.
I would pump up the low end of the guns, they should sound more impressive, I know guns naturaly sound "smaller" in real life and Hollywood processes that sound effect a lot. Except when I was recording a Desert Eagle .50 in a small shooting range-I didn't have to do anything to that, it was the sound equilivant of a bull kicking you in the face!

As far as I know all of the audio in this trailer is just location audio, no sfx.
It destined for festivals. Last update I got from Chris is that its currently in audio post.
He is now looking for a color correction solution beyond what Final Cut is offering. He explored a facility here in Chicago (Swell) that has a great colorist and a DaVinci 2k but it was just too costly.
This film had a healthy budget for a digital short, my best estimate is somewhere around $15k, but he still got a ton of stuff for free. The SWAT team and hanger for a day being one of them. He pretty much ran out of cash for post production.

I went to his website, and he doesn't mention anything about the DVX. He says that they own a DSR-500.
Was this movie shot with the DVX?

Well was it shot on DVX or not? The suspense is killing me.

Since the site doesn't mention the DVX, I was assuming that they shot it with the DSR-500.
But, until someone confirms, this is just a speculation of mine.

The second part of the trailer where we see Dreamscape Cinema on the screen really moves. I loved the pacing and the quick editing of shots. The first part was too slow in my opinion. Was that original music being used too?

I think some of it is original music. The final mix should be all original music, as Chris is a composer.
This project was shot on the Varicam. The slow motion was achieved by overcranking the camera.

Don't this look great? On another post somewhere it was confirmed that the film was shot on a high end, High Def camera... I'm not sure if it was the Sony or the Panni varicam. They had a professional DP fly in from somewhere, I forget the details. ::)

I mean, it looks great, but whats the point of posting footage shot on a $60,000 camera. What does it have to do with the DVX100 other than it was made by the same manufacturer?

Non other than...inspiration?

Yeah.. the music was what captured me too... and when i do my edits, the music usually sets the pace of the edit. I liked the way the editor did the last part of the text... (although there was the repeat in the earlier part).
Great job...

Yes, of course. But this is for DVX footage only. You should have posted it in the Cafe ala DVX.

Wasn't shot on a DVX? How dare you. You crushed our hearts and dreams and aspirations. As I touched myself last night watching the trailer, I thought about how much tweaking I had to do with my DVX, to get it to look like that. Then you dropped a bombshell and crushed my heart. I hope Ebert and Roepert give you a 2 thumbs down man.

HA.
I lied. It was actually shot on VHS.
You can return to touching yourself.

Actually, it was shot with a very special new technique where the ENTIRE 25 minute film is all individual still shots from my standard 35mm camera...shot on the worst black and white film available and all the color was added with crayon in post production :o
OK not so much....
I'm sorry this thread was started in an inappropriate list, but thank you all for your comments. I'm sure you'll all appreciate that this trailer was made from the rough cut of the film (actually before it was ever edited and color corrected, etc) and I have since just recently re-edited the trailer from the final cut of the film.
If anyone has any questions or would like to speak with me further about the project I would be happy to do that as you see fit.
Thanks again for your interest and you can keep an eye on www.dualfilms.com/toxinmain.htm for updates on the film and the new trailer once it is released in a few days!
Kindest regards,

Chris,
Please dont take my comment the wrong way. The trailer is fantastic, its just misplaced. I feel, that everything in this "room" should be DVX100 footage. If the truth be known I was just severely disappointed that this great looking footage wasnt DVX100. I showed several people who were doubters and said.. "see what this camera is capable of..." Keep up the good work.

Hello all!
OK...so I COMPLETELY forgot that in point of fact, we DID use the DVX-100 for SOME of the material in the film, only the footage that is in the trailer also just so happens to be the stuff that looks rather muddy in comparison because I *purposely* shot it to look amateur and cruddy (which still looked dynamite b/c 24P rocks my world) and then projected it through a TV screen and filmed THAT with the HD camera (after having zoomed in). If you haven't figured this out by now this footage is the material of the two grad students that are coughing up a storm.
If you guys are interested at all in the *NEW* TOXIN trailer...check it out here ;):
