This is a work in progress for an upcoming film fest called ' quick flick world '
They set a theme every month - next theme is ' journey ' so I decided to use some footage from my dirty raver music video which some of you have already seen. The footage pretty much summed up ' journey ' for me but I added a little twist ( not a serious one ) . Its only around 2 min or so & is pretty much filled up with a bunch of titles.

Nicely done as always, Carrington. What did you do to create the warp effect on the guy's face in the clip? Neat effect there. Made his face sort of look like an alien.
Was this done all in your editing program or did you use After Effects?

yep - that was the plan - I experimented with the face manipulation in photoshop back when I was getting ideas for the music vid.
The alien look was something that summed up the ' journey ' theme pretty well to me.
Im not a big fan of too much cgi etc etc unless its discreet - so it is something I tend to stay away from unless some cgi special fx pro could do it for me but - in this case i figured what the f**k - its an intro & its fun to look at so there ya' g :P ;D

Nothing needs to be said.
Carrington continues to produce some killer work. One of a handful of guys here impressing me.
There. I said it.

looks cool man. i like the distorted head stuff. There were a few cool scenes in natural born killers that had that sort of thing.

Man that was really cool.
That looked like Canada Water tube station. Did you film there?
And did you ask for permission to film?
I tried it once with a friend and they told us off.
Anyway, all the best
Fidel.

Mr Hudson - cheers for your kind comments mate - I always look forward to your top notch clips & grabs :)
Derrick_SA - Im not sure I get you on the " matrix " look - it is helped along by the location + lots of cc & gamma correction. Its something you get used to after really getting inside your nle which in my case is just good ol fcp alongside ae.
Mr Lee - Thanx again for your kind comments - quick flick world has been around a year or so but has grown very quickly & gained a very good following - soho is a hot bed of creatives so thats the reason for its success - it has just launched in Berlin also.Im also in the mind of getting to the next level in filmmaking - not sure how yet .. but perseverience is the key :)
araujofh - Canada water alongside North Greenwich & Waterloo were the stations involved. I don't think I would get away with that now, we got asked to leave a number of times but - we just hopped on a train & went to another station then filmed more bits until we were asked to leave again.
The hardest shot was in my ' dirtyraver ' video were the raver lay dead on the platform ( last shot of the vid ) - that caused about 10 transport guys to come down & ask what the hell we were doing - thats when I decided to wrap ;D
Shadow - cheers ;)

They are always on the case. But you can get permission to film as long as you just do it hand held.
We have asked permission to film in the tube station, and they asked us to tell them the date and all this stuff.
If you asked them nicely, they let you film for free. Only problem is that you have to do everything hand-held.
But you were brave. We have done it a number of times, and always they asked us to leave.
Anyway, keep making those nice movies.
All the best
Fidel.

Thats right Fidel - I was a little naive when I first when out shooting stuff & that kinda helped me when doing the ' raver ' video. It was when I started shooting a corp video I started to really hit hurdles when trying to get shots in the cool buildings in the city - I even wanted to get some shots on the London eye - but the wait time etc was too long.
The tube is pretty good if you go through the proper channels - so I've heard anyway.
nice one - always happy to keep the folk around here updated on my latest projects ;)

Yes man, you are right on that. The waiting is too long.
We just go and shoot, if they asks to leave, then we leave.
Guerrilla style.
All the best
Fidel.

Thanks for replying, what I meant with the "matrix" look is the Color-correcting techniques. I guess I should play around with it alot more than I do to get the hang of it.
Thanks again,
Derrick

thats awesome that they let you shoot for free. you can forget about that in Los Angeles. Its amazing how frustrating it can be to shoot anything in this fucking town without someone wanting to make a fortune off of you. As soon as someone hears "shoot" or "film" or whatever, they turn into money hungry assholes. but maybe im just being naive about it.

Carrington I was so impressed with dirty raver and once again I am inspired. Excellent CC work with fcp. Quick question when you freeze frame what conversion are you using for the still to go into PhotoShop. Your stills always look so clean even with scale effects.
Great Work!

Why do you think a lot of big US production are going abroad to do their film?? Always $$$$$$$
Even here in Canada, few years back (I was doing fashion photography), that was costing nothing to shoot anywhere, people will pay you just to have some publicity, but now as soon as someone hears "shoot" film or photo, the only word in their mouth is "money". At least, now you are not the only one with that problem.

There is a new film just out called ' layer cake ' http://sonypictures.co.uk/movies/layercake/ by the makers of ' lock stock.. ' & ' snatch ' it shows alot of shots of London that have rarely been seen before. The director said in an interview that it is much easier to film in London than people think & that no matter how small the budget - you'd be surprised how much access filmakers are allowed compared to other city's :o
Its certainly doesn't feel that way for me as a british citizen but then again - I guess I have to make a film first & find out .. :D

yah, thats why films in hollywood, especialy big popular ones dont use the real name of the show. like the matrix 2 and 3 were called burlyman, and superman is called flyby. i watched some of the star wars making off stuff, and they came up with a pretty silly title for the empire and jedi to keep people from flipin out all the time and raising prices.
GOOD WORK man. I liked it a lot.

Is there a link to this place? And, when you say SOHO so you mean in NYC? I would like to check this out if it is.

Didn't they close down London in the wee early mornings to shoot the early scened of 28 Days Later? And didn't they shut down a part of NYC for Vanilla Sky? I was gonna say maybe money talks but 28 Days Later was shot on a minimal budget so there goes that...
Anyways, your work astounds me Carrington. Truly amazing and inspiring. The song was familiar this time around though. Was it possibly The Crystal Method?
Looking forward to more from you as usual. :D
