I am looking forward to seeing this section of dvx possibly becoming the biggest topic. Excited about this camera's potential in the market and as a proud XL2 owner, I don't have any sour feelings about this camera coming out so soon after the XL2.

I understand Canon will have footage to share online tomorrow. Can't wait to get my hands on it. Looks like they are going for the jungular for multicamera installs with genlock. These are great times!

Yea, someone who is one of the major parts of Canons development told me last year at a SMPTE conference that they like to sit quietly on the sidelines and watch what everyone else does then make what everyone else doesn't. This is the best entry in the low budget HD camera out there as of now. Forget the P2 entry and the additional cost to record enough time with that toaster. And to think how everyone ran out and preordered without ever seeing it. Plug this camera in and go. It offers far more. Panasonic is taking a big chance with P2 and with this camera offering so much more, the P2 is already the looser.

LOL! A brillant toaster, but the slices of bread cost $2K.
There are two factors as to whether I would buy this camera:
1) How good does the 1080i50 and 1080f25 look once squished onto to HDV.
2) How far under the $9K will the street price be.
If the answers are:
1) Not a lot better than a Z1
and
2) $1
I won't buy it and I am sure many would agree.

Chill, they are very different cameras, at very different prices!
Like get pissed off because BMW release a new 7 series when you have just bought a 3 series.

If it makes you feel any better, Panasonic did not abandon the DVX100 and came out with a "b" version. That is the level of camera for the XL2 is. The HD-100, XL-H1, and HVX200 will be competing in the low budget HD wars.
The XL2 has not been discontinued and at a street of $3600 right now, is not in the same ballpark.
ash =o)
