Hello all,

I've been visiting this forum for a few weeks now because I am planning on getting a dvx100a for my next project. It seems like a great camera and if it really can produce these 24fps filmlike images, then i'll be having a ball using it for my next project.

My first film was a feature called LIMBO and was completed this year. Been to some festivals in the US and Europe (one really major international one in Italy, have no idea how we got into it...even got a headline in Variety and a review albeit VERY harsh, i'll post links if anyone wants them).

Anyway, that film was shot on a canon XL1S and then sent to FILMLOOK in LA to convert the dv into a 24fps filmlike image. It turned out great but the dvx looks far superior.

You can check out the official website for my last film at: www.limbomovie.com (flash & quicktime required)

yeah i was able to see it

its quicktime, if he used quicktime 7 you might need to download that.

the site is a flash site (very cool design)

Hmm not sure why you are having trouble watching them. They work fine for me both on my mac and pc. Some systems instead of streaming just download straight ot the desktop. Either way, they work fine. They are quicktime 6 files by the way not quicktime 7. I hope you get to see them. The method to get a film like look was much more tedious than what the dvx100a seems to offer, but we were happy with what we were able to make with this film for only 9 grand and two and a half weeks of production shooting.

let me know if you are still having probs viewing the files etc

there are also music clips and a host of other info on the website.

thanks

note is is FLASH only. You will need to have both flash and quicktime 6 at least installed on your browser. quicktime 7 will obviously play anything.

Can you just post a link directly to the trailer?

ok well here is a link to the main trailer and teaser trailer on ifilm.com. You should have no trouble viewing them there:

ifilm: http://www.ifilm.com/ifilmdetail/2670550

these don't have the clips you can see on the site and so on.

the site trailers are better res though. Maybe try using Internet Explorer rather than netscape or other browsers. See if that works for those that had trouble. Not had problems with it before. Not sure why some can't view them. I'll gt on to the web designer.

Thanks...

ok I saw the one on ifilm. It looks good. It looks like a slow movie but as long as it has a good story than it should interest. I liked the lighting in it and the sound. It all looked good from what I could see. Keep up the good work.

Black and white rules my friend. The trailer was good enough, that I didn't notice till part way in. Like Raging Bull. Great imagery.

I watched the trailer on iFilm. I'm using Mozilla FireFox and I couldn't view the trailer on your site either. Awsome site! Although the trailer was a bit long/slow, it looked and sounded great, the acting looked good and from what I heard it sounds like its well written. Congratulations on a job very well done.

thanks guys. yeah the main trailer is alittle on th long sid, but ther is a teaser one there that is shorter.

We hope to have the film on rental and store shelves in the North America territory by early 2006.

i'll make an anouncement on the site. Ned all the support we can get from fellow dv users and movie enthusiasts. It was hard as hell making a movie with no budget.

nicely done, I think the canon did its job, you brought the artistry

Looks like a decent film (from the 1 min trailer, ifilm doesn't like to play longer ones...atomfilms rules!) but I'm not sure why it's B&W (?) I'll definitely have to netflix it though.

Thanks. We had to squeeze every drop of trickery we could to get the Canon to get the filmlookable images. Still like I say, I just wish we had a DVX back then. It would have saved so much stress.

I hope you get the dvd when it is released. We will try to put in as much info on how we pulled the movie off on the bonus disc. The film's done really well in getting into very big festivals. The last one we were in in Italy was hilarious. I think the cheapest film in the 12 film competition was half a million. THe rest ranged from 10 mill to 12 million dollars. And there we were with our dinky DV 9 grand movie. Scary.

awww not gonna buy the dvd...shucks. No seriously, thanks for the support. A rent is great. I'd just want folks to see it regardless of how. It is black and white for artistic reasons. Check out the website man. it goes into some detail about the film and why we did stuff as well as having more clips and sound files. Use internet explorer.

Great site. Flash done properly. Fanci without being ExtrA. Some of the twitchy text is cheesy, but overall good Flashing. Haven't seen the trailers yet. hehe, but I know they must be good. Music is awesome.

buddy this sucks....
Wow, that was informative...lol. It does look like a well scripted movie. The only thing I noticed, was that the Blacks looked a little too grey. Maybe it's my monitor, but it seems it would have looked better if the blacks were crushed a bit more. Just my personal opinion, but it looks like you guys have a good looking film on your hands.

I love the black and white, you have me hooked, i would like to see the film, the acting was well done, I am always ready for those cringe worth moments and you had none in your trailer. Great website too, the design works well with the feel of your film. Congrats on the festival in Italy! keep us posted on your progress and when you have a dvd ready! thanks for posting.

this has kind of turned into a duplication of another thread I have on the xl2 screen grabs board. I don't know how to joine them up or cancel this one however. Thanks for the comments. Keep tabs on the website and info on the dvd will be on there when it is available. You can also read the reviews that have come out fo rthe film on the thread on the xl2 grabs board.
