Hey everybody i just wanted to share a little thing that i've been researching and finally went through with.

Thats with a Super Takumar 50mm f/1.4 with a reverse ring.

This is with the same setup but with a bellows that i got for 10 dollars. Just wanted to show you guys that you don't need to invest in the newest lenses, i mean you lose auto focus/auto aperture, but who cares for 1/10 of the price you get the same quality.

Gotta love the pentax screw mounts. I use a Pentax Spotmatic F with screw mounts and it rocks!

I actually love older lenses. On occasion they just seem to lend something special to the image.

They are built soooooo tough too. My Takumar lenses (28mm, 50mm, 2x teleconverter) and my Soligor (80mm-200mm zoom) are like tanks, the glass is pretty nice too and everything is just so smooth and nice.....

Yeah. I just bought a Takumar 300mm for 50 bucks. we'll see how that goes. I started buying them last week, and have about 10 of them now. Kind of easy to spend 10 - 30 dollars here and their instead of a 500-1500.

http://translucentstudios.onlinestoragesolution.com/MattChilin_Small.jpg That was taken with a takumar 55mm f/2.0 and a fisheye extension that i got for 10 dollars off of ebay. It's and older screw on, with an aperture control. I have an extra one if you would maybe want to work something out.

The Peleng 8mm lens isn't bad, and on a full-frame 35mm frame it's a circular fisheye... and it's pretty cheap, last time I checked it was under $200.

ebay, just within the last week the prices jumped up about 20 - 40 dollars, i bought the 50mm f/1.4 last week for 20 bucks. But look around use these for your search: super takumaer, takumar, m42 lens, screw mount lens, pentax screw, smc lens. You should be able to find a decent amount of them. Just make sure that they are clean, the blades don't have oil on them, and that their is no fungus, i haven't experienced that yet, but i have heard some stories. If you need help finding some just pm me.

There are three classes of screw-mount lenses that I found were worth buying. My favorites are the Zeiss Jena M42 lenses. There are also a few Zeiss West German M42s out there, but the vast majority you'll find are Jena's. The build quality may not be up to the build quality in the West German versions, but the glass is superb anyway.

Then there's Super Takumars. These are some pretty great lenses too.

Finally there's Super-Multi-Coated (SMC) Takumars. These are the latest and greatest of the M42 Takumar lineup. However, they changed the lens mount a little, and SMC Takumars won't necessarily fit on all M42-compatible bodies. I got an SMC stuck on a Krasnogorsk body and couldn't get it off no matter what I did. So be very careful when mounting SMC Takumars to any camera body other than a Pentax.

I am looking at getting a Zenitar 16mm fisheye for an EOS 10D I am buying, does anyone have any suggestions as to something that may work better? I know with the 1.6 multiplier in the 10D you have to get some pretty extreme lenses to get the fish effect, and I don't need an autofocus or auto exposure lense, I just want something for really cool fisheye shots. Any suggestions? The zenitar 16mm's run around 100-200 on Ebay....BTW, that is an awsome fisheye shot Zigernot, What camera did you take it with I assume your 20D? Barry- Do they make the Peleng fisheye in EOS mount? Or does it require an adapter?

The Peleng Fish-Eye is a screw mount too, i have seen some ebay auctions that come with the eos mount adapter with it, but if you can't find one with that you can find them for 10 dollars. The Zenitar will act like an extreme wide angle, so you won't get that "cool distortion". I've read up ont he Peleng and have heard good things, except for the inconsitence with the coating on the lens.

yeah that was with my 20d, i was about to sell it for the 5d, but will save up so i can have two camera's.

Barry, i keep reading up that the optical quality of the Super Takumar's and the Super-Multi-Coated takumars are exactly the same, just the coating is different.. Have you heard otherwise.

The 10D is in the mail, maybe I should buy one of these lense setups to use. Did you buy from Kiev Camera on Ebay?

I'm not an expert on it, but it is my understanding that the basic glass in the Super Takumars and SMC Takumars is supposed to be the same. The SMC Takumars do get an advantage in performance because of the superb super-multi-coating process.

And forget the Zenitar as a fisheye -- it won't look anything like a fisheye on your Canon camera. You'd need something much, much wider. I doubt even the Peleng 8mm would deliver a true 180-degree fisheye experience on that Canon...

yea, I figured as much. the 16mm might be a good route even still, as a good super wide angle. I like the fisheyes for cramped quarters and other artsy skewed perspective shots.....
