Just more ways to show recognition of achievement. Prizes don't need to be given out with them, just a nice pat on the back for recieving it.

Such as:
Best Cinematography
Best Writing
Best Dialog
Most Original Idea
Best Use of a Zombie
Most Bloody
etc.

Just a thought. I hope your films are all going well.

So can we get Barry to start an "official" awards list? That'd be pretty awesome.

Ok, let me think about that one. We won't have any voting for these categories in the film viewing/rating system, but I'd be cool with recognizing specific achievments. I hope everyone remembers we're giving out a copy of DVRack for Best Sound Design.

I already won that award; the prize so far was a $2000 check from FEMA, LOL.

Whoa, whoa, whoa! Title Treatments? Maybe for the DVD, but what about us folks that crammed the entire 5 minutes with story & didn't have time for title treatments? :)

Love the idea of the pat-on-the-back awards, TC, great idea!

Thanks.
I hope all everything matches, ha ha.

I like your banner. That's a cool thought / metaphor for this -- all of us, all over the world, making these little creations on our hard drives that have a sort of life or "un-life" of their own which then demand to be realeased into the world to do what they do.

If the DVD is marketed or put together as a compilation from a DVX web festival (as opposed to just a compilation of DVX footage), I think that would be a great log line for the cover.

How about an award for 'Worst Possible Submission By Someone Who Really Should Have Been Able To Produce Something Better'?

I think I'm all over that one.

<whine>
My final clip is such shite, when I told my lead actor yesterday that I had submitted the entry, he was eager to do a showing at his band's next gig, and I said, 'well, maybe you ought to see it first.' Oh well. I knew, going in, that we weren't putting the effort into this project that we typically do on our others, and it definately shows.
</whine>

Darn it, everyone still had a great time, and we learned boatloads about makeup-intensive productions. Note to self: allow THREE hours for makeup sessions, not ONE. :)

We're even talking doing some sort of feature-length zombie production, with quality, of course. And more topless chicks.

We were also talking about the feature length idea. I think it would be awesome. But man....How long it took just to do a 5 min movie!!! The feature would take a forever to complete. At least by that time some of my actors will really be dead and I can have realistic looking zombies.

Yeah, but we'd definately round up a budget and investment money for a feature length, just so I can actually fire people who don't show up when they are supposed to.

Title TreatmentI LIKE those categories! More coding for Jarred . . . I'm sure they would be into it in principle, but I'm sure it's just a matter of if they could manage the extra work it might take to make that possible.

More coding for Jarred . . .

Couldn't we just do it with forum polls? They're more unnofficial, but I think it could work. We nominate films in a normal topic, and then build a poll from all the nominated films a few days later.

Just a thought.

[QUOTE=speedbump]How about an award for 'Worst Possible Submission By Someone Who Really Should Have Been Able To Produce Something Better'?

I think I'm all over that one.[QUOTE]

This the most funny:grin: and most truthful:huh: statement ANYWHERE in this whole damn forum!

I tried pretty hard to pull our story in a different direction from the very beginning... since I didn't really feel that we had a story we could tell with any kind of sense in 5 minutes... and everybody was busy from the 2 weeks before the deadline right up to it... we litterally threw this together in 2 weeks. So there I am editing everything in my spare time within 48 HOURS of the deadline... and I'm just trying as hard as I can do depict Dave's story/idea (our writer/director)... so I'm hunting through footage as fast as I can... with about 3 hours of clips logged on the computer. So I blast it out as best I can for fear that at midnight I'll get a banner that says, "sorry... the park's closed... the moose outside shoulda' told ya'..."

Cut to next day as I'm kicking myself for not taking off a day of work just to do this shit... I'm going through footage that nobody had any intention of using and yeah... some of that stuff was great... and I should have taken the ending in a new direction based solely on some clowing around... one of our zombies was acting like he was watching tv (that you couldn't see) while he was snacking on some guts. It's even funnier then it sounds because the final cut would have led into that perfectly... I am SO PISSED at myself.:embarasse

Obviously you'll see that on the DVD.

Some of my characters have magic shoes that are able to appear and dissapear between shots. Also, in the fictional world of my movie, it can go from a bright and sunny day to completely overcast in 2 seconds flat! There's even a guy who appears from thin air with no explaination! Fantastical Wonderments and Delights!

Thanks ZombieSquid... I feel a little better already.

Seriously... I have NO problem laughing my ass off at the technical weaknesses of our short... I still think it's fairly entertaining... the 5 minutes goes by pretty quick... and the DVD will be at least 27% more polished.

HorseFilms

Yeah, I watch my film and cringe throughout most of it.

ZombieSquid
09-21-2005, 11:29 AM
There's one point in my short where a character delivers a line and I start laughing like a madman every single time I hear it. Everybody looks at me like I'm crazy. What they don't know is that I pitch shifted his voice down because I thought he sounded like a weenie. The actor didn't even notice when he watched it. We've all got our weird little secrets.

Norm Sanders
09-21-2005, 12:09 PM
I had a similar instance, and was going to ADR it (when the guy says "seriously?" it comes out very high pitched, almost like a girl's), but everyone laughs when they hear it, and since it is to be a slightly comical moment I thought it would be best left alone.

Either everyone's just doing the obligatory self bashing of their film for humility's sake, or my film may rank better than I thought it would. :) Other than some fairly stiff acting from my lead actress, it all-in-all turned out fairly well. Still not up to my original vision, but could have been a ton worse.

SHEESH I can't wait for these things to get posted!

I made these just in case we do the sub-awards. I made them the same color as the member name box so maybe we could add it in under the avatar if you win.

Would you mind making some "loser" badges for the rest of us?

I'd really like one with the "wheat" curled around it that says, "Loser, Stealer of Five Minutes that I'll Never Get Back".

Anybody got any buzz on the grand unveiling? Tonight maybe? I'm picturing the server to be like the kitchen door from All in the Family... and half of us can be Archie and the other half can be Meathead.

Dude, you crack me up with at least every other post of yours. Good stuff!

LOB, thanks for that work, even if it doesn't get used, it's great to see! It would be stellar if we actually got to use it as well.

Make me a loser badge in the avatar format and I will PROUDLY display it with honor! I'm willing to bet that after I get my loser badge/avatar up that everybody will want one... it's cool to be a loser. Who wants to be a dorky ass winner anyway?
