Wow:

It's been a couple of weeks since I posted anything or even had time to visit this site. I was having heavy withdrawls!

Well, it is finally done. Many of you probably have read about my search for the perfect 35mm adapter that would fit my needs. After countless wasted hours and lots of tons of money wasted on rings, macro lenses and other stuff (my wife just wants to kill me after she saw the bill!) I finally finished the adapter to be used with my Sony DSR-300. I am pretty happy with the results...but i am convinced that the way to go for my needs is the Guerilla 35 (hey Jonathan...I sent you an e-mail to purchase a pre-production model with the threads).

Anyhow, here are some pictures of the adapter in a recent shoot and also a small sample clip. Enjoy!

holy...that's a nice adapter..

amazing images too! Awesome work super8. Looks impressive with that massive camera

care to share on how you made it?

edit: by the way, that baby is scared of the behemoth camera :)

and I also just noticed some vignetting on the right side... but still, looks great

hey...in which clip do you see the vignetting?

Coco Bermudez

You know:

I see the vignetting in the last clip "the swiing" This is because I had not yet a way to attach the lens to the camera and i was holding it with my hands.

nice work, looking very solid and the image is realy smooth considering the gg is not spinning. wouldnt mind trying it out at all :)

The footage looks excellent Super8. I'm sure we'd all like to hear any wax, condenser, macro wisdom you've learned through all of your experiments with making a production worthy adaptor.

Anyways, good work.

Nice shots indoors. I have not been able to get enough light to do that. I like the swing scene.

Isn't this a DVX-100 discussion group? How did this post get over here? Does your stuff work on the DVX?

Thanks guys:

I am pretty happy with the results myself. The only problem has been the ground screen. I use a focus screen but they can scratch pretty easy. I was told but several photo places that it was pretty much unscratchable, but I think they scratch easily. Nothing major though...but depending on how the light shines thru the lense, you might catch a scratch here and there.

It is much easier to control the lense inside the studio than outside. With less light I can check for spots or specs. When outside, it is hard to see anything on the screen.

If you look atmy monitor, you can see the picture already flipped. This help out a ton. My monitor has a verical flip as well as a horizontal flip. Nomore guessing or turning the viewfinder upside as I have seen done with some XL1's and XL2's.

The lense itself is pretty light...allowing metoattach it to the front of the lense.

I will post the interviews I did prety soon so he can see the DOF I am able to attain

Safford:

yep...it is a DVX-100 discussion group. But there are also other cameras that can be featured as long as you let everyone know what camera you are using. Am I right?

Regardless, my adapter works in a DVX-100 with no problem. Some of the earlier footage I posted (months ago) was created with a 100. Actually the adapter works with many camaras. Our main cameras are larger Sony cameras...so it was my goal since the beginning to create a 35mm lense adapter that I could fit into the front of a larger camera than the 100.

ooops!

your right Safford...upon further research....this is a DVX only discussion group.

my apologies

Can you make instructions on how exactly you made this final version of your adapter? As well with the price list of each of the items? Great work by the way! Wow!

dude, are you using a non moving GG? is it forsale?

It is a static GG......don't have time to make a spinning one...plus I do not have the know how.......but the grain is pretty much invisible. The adapter is real easy to make...(off couse I say this after almost a year of making it. i will put the instructions and part numbers shortly

Hey guys.....ooops completely forgot

I will post the instruction at the DIY section later today....with part numbers and what have you...real easy to construct too

Just a friendly nudge to remind you that some us are eagerly awaiting specifics on your adapter.

Thanks for posting it.

Another friendly nudge to say nice work and would love to see the specs. It looks almost as good as the G35.

I'd like to knnow how much to build, how much you can seel em for, etc?

Hey guys:

I haven't forgoten about you. i am just doing a couple of modifications to the adapter. I should be getting the parts later this week and i will be able to test it. It should make the lens adapter cheaper and better..."poorman style"

As much as I can appreciate adapters made from cans and "toilet paper" cardboard rolls, I am trying to make one that will look decent and will give us the best results.

My main goal is to have to minimize the need to zoom in to get rid of the vignetting. will keep you all posted.

Could that be accomplished by using a stronger macro lens and bringing the 35mm lens closer to the dvx lens?

-"Could that be accomplished by using a stronger macro lens and bringing the 35mm lens closer to the dvx lens?"

Good point but I have tested it this way and I find two problems with it. Sometimes it distorts the image and it ends up cropping out valuable image "real estate"

Most importantly...macro lenses tend to make the grain in the ground glass show up more. By it's own nature, if you have a good throw from the lens to the ground glass, you should get a large enough image to zoom in or not zoom in at all.

Is it the same thing as this (http://www.enormousapparatus.com/35adapter.htm) one?

Coco Bermudez
09-28-2005, 10:19 AM
No it's not but the principle is the same...using empty filter rings as spacers in between the lens and the ground glass. In my own personal opinion, using two +10 macros makes the ground glass impurities show up loud and clear. Also I am constructing my optical tube out of larger filter rings so that there is a minimal need to zoom in.
