Hello fellow DVXers!

Well (as many of you have felt hundreds of times before me) I am starting to see the end of the tunnel now on my current project, HUNTING CAMP, and it's starting to feel good! *

I am getting confident enough to start putting some stuff out on the film's website. *So here you go (make sure you have Flash installed):

http://www.the-Lyons-Den.com/huntingcamp

Filmed of course with the DVX100a (24pA, squeeze). *There's two WMV clips out there, some screen grabs, behind the scenes and more all in the MEDIA section. *All the other sections (except "buy") are up as well... *I am working on the trailer and will post a link when that is done as well.

I would really appreciate your feedback if you have the time let me know your thoughts and the site and footage/grabs! *

Lookin' good. I especially like the warm look of the first one (though the one with the hot chick is also pleasing). ;)

I like that little monitor you use... what is it?

Hi there,

I really like the grabs. How did you get the look of the second clip, I am busy writing a treatment, and that look will really look goooood on this short when it is done.

Thanks !
Derrick

Thanks for the words guys! *

The little 7" widescreen LCD is the Panasonic TC-7MWS. *I love it, very helpful in framing for 16x9! *And at 7"s its pretty decent sized playback for when everyone wants a peak of how something turned out. *I run mine off a battery pack on my belt so it doesnt drain the camera's battery.

As for the look of the 2nd pic, I used just Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 and the video effects adjustment tools - levels and channel mixer mainly. *It takes time, but I hope that it's worth it in the end. *The funny thing is most "regular" people never really notice that stuff unless its blindingly obvious, but oh well! *he he.

Derrick, I can give you the specific numbers I changed everything to in each effect if you have PPro, just let me know.

Trailer looks good....I have a question though....you shot this 24p correct? How did you capture it? I ask this becuase, It seems as though I am noticing interlaced fields in the video which should have been removed in 2:3:3:2 Advanced pulldown to make it 24 frames progressive------extra fields seem to be showing up....did you export the quicktime file as 24p?

Again, I could be wrong...just wanted to give you heads up- Anyone else see these extra fields? Ideas?

reelmike, good call, I noticed that as well on some of the quicker moving scenes. It appears the .mov was exported as 30fps.

I have the same problem but with Sony Vegas. When I tell it to make the timeline 23.975, it gets jumpy. Weird.

Cool film. Did you have a steadicam for some of the shots? ;D

Thanks for the words MrBeaker,

Well its pretty apparent that I (and perhaps you too) don't know what I am doing when it comes to exporting 24pA 16x9 footage from PPro. Ugh. It works flawlessly with WMV so I guess I am gonna say screw QT unless someone on the forum knows what theyre doing with it.

I too have DVX100ae and I never knew you get such good stuff with DVX100a. Can you share the setup for the diffrent takes.

Thanks!

The 1st and 3rd images are from "flashback" scenes in the film and I applied Magic Bullet Movie Looks Warm filter (which came with Premiere free) to them to give them a look that set them apart from the present day parts of the movie. *The "Timberlake" image (wow, I am gonna have to tell George, my actor, that one!) *I shot in a giant white bright racquetball court and didnt really do anything else special except use the coloring filter, it looked good on its own w/o.

For some other shots - just playing with levels and channel mixer mostly in Premiere Pro 1.5 to tweak the image a bit. *As far as shooting techniques I am just learning lighting and sound and stuff from this forum and DV.com's and I watch a hell of a lot of movies, as I am sure you all do as well - to learn shots. *So just using natural lighting and bounce cards mostly, although some scenes I plugged in a couple extra lights where needed, but I don't have a light kit or anything like that (yet).

This is my first attempt at anything with the DVX (and my 3rd short film overall) so it's nice to hear someone likes the look. *Hopefully lots of people like the movie too when its all done! *he he

But yes these images are from the DVX just with some fine tuning here and there and with no outside professional help. *No budget really other than the DVX, PPro, batteries, and the 7" LCD - just great friends and connections helping me out... *And I'm STILL working on that freakin' trailer for the web! *If any of you are going to the Eerie Horror Film Fest this weekend you will see it there from a DVD and without export issues!

So please see the new links above in the previous posts (which are now updated) to check them all out!

Thought I would drop a news update that I got to hang with Mark Borchardt the last couple days (really cool guy, EXACTLY like he is in "American Movie") and he is using the DVX100 for his new movie (shooting now) called "SCARE ME". *

If you haven't seen "American Movie" yet, a documentary about Mark trying to make his movie "Coven" you really should, its a riot!

here's a pic of Mark, me, and Horror Fest Prez Greg Ropp:

I went to B&H website and also Googled "TC-7MWS" and got no hits. Are you sure about that model number?

TC7WMS1 (forgot the "1", sorry)

Here's the Panny spec sheet on it:
