Light Meter for K-3

Okay my K-3 just came in. I testes everything and loaded a roll of film. Works perfectly! Nice and stable and no scratches!

Since i don't have any documentation on this camera, does anyone know how to work the light meter? Specifically, what the voltage it requires. Has anyone had any success with finding alkalines that suffice?

Anyways, any general info on this light meter system would help.
