do i need the ka-551u to mount the camera on tripod?? what about mounting on cobra cran 2+ ? :shocked:

Nope. You don't need it. There's a 1/4"-20 on the bottom.
The tripod plate will help some people out though if they have a head where the balance plate doesn't move far enough to balance.
