Can any one be so kind as to reccommend some photography books?
I would like to learn the basics and then move on from there.
Perhaps you could also reccommend some great photographers that are worth checking into.
I searched through AMAZON, but I just don't know what's worth picking up and I really don't have the money to make a bad buy.
Feel free to give me as many suggestions as you'd like.
Thanks :)

Are you talking about film photography? If so... there's tons.
My favorite growing up was Ansel Adams. I have a bunch of his work hanging around my house.

Photography by London and Upton is a classic primer. Expensive new, so buy any older version you can find.

A great photo bookstore site is http://www.photoeye.com/
What DVXuser.com is to digital video, photo.net is to still photography--an amazing resource.

Try to buy, borrow or rent the Dean Collins video series. Dean was a great lecturer and educator- a few of his , especially lighting, will help a lot. The lighting series will apply to video as well, covering and illustrating basics like specularity, size of lightsources, etc. I attended a few of his lectures early in my photography career, and I still rely on the basics I learned there. You might find them on ebay- the Finelight Series. Great guy, Dean, we miss you.

I bought a book about still photography called "Learning to see creatively" by Bryan Peterson.
I loved this book because it's full of photo's and the author explained why he chose to do the photo like that.
It opens your mind to new idea's and makes you aware of a lot of things you never weren't.
there's no "Follow these steps and .... bla bla bla".
Very nice.
Thanks,
Derrick
