Hey, I am looking to start up an DVX user group here in Atlanta Georgia so aspiring filmmaker can come together and share their knowledge about this wonderful technology. If anyone lives in the area feel free to contact me view this message board. If we get enough people we could arrange meetings. Take care to all.

There's still no group (that I know of) -- but I'm open to one also. I'm out on the Lawrenceville side of town.

Ok, let's take a count. How many people are REALLY interested in forming an Atlanta group?

I live about 2 hours out, but may be willing to make a trek to some sort of meeting.

Owen
05-09-2006, 09:35 AM
There seems to be interest -- just no one to actually organize the thing! :)

Anybody got any ideas on where to meet? It would be nice to start out by getting an idea of what everyone does in town and exchanging cards (business, not P2!)

My dvx is on its way. Count me in as well. I am pretty much a hobbyist and do a few things for my church, but am anxious to really get some more experience. I live in Marietta and work near perimeter mall.

hey ATL guys. i grew up in atlanta and now live in los angeles. i am doing music videos and since the durrty south is the hot spot for rap right now, some of my urban clients want atlanta stuff in their videos. would anyone be interested in getting me some b-roll shots from around town? in return i could get you some l.a./hollywood/beach or whatever shots. like a stock footage trade kinda thing. i need some signature urban-ish atlanta shots done in 24pa. pm me if interested.

Hey,

As the Chinese Emperor said, "The first step is half the journey." We all have equipment and the desire to do creative things. Someone needs to nudge that ball down the slope so we can get an Atlanta group started.

I live in Duluth, GA and wll be willing to help people on their projects if they are willing to
reciprocate. Some of us have strengths in some areas more then others. I've written three scripts and produced one of them as a local play. I'm sure many of you have more talent then me in other areas. The whole will be greater then the sum of the parts.

I will be happy to schedule a meeting somewhere that is centrally located for all who respond. I can be reached at <revit1@mac.com>.

I'm all for getting the group organized.

The 30th Atlanta Film Festival is going on starting this Friday. Anyone want to meet up and get a group going? A lot of the events are taking place on GSU's campus.

Does noon on Saturday sound good to anyone?

I'm going to be on a night schedule at work for a week from June 12-16th.
Perhaps we could meet at my workplace studio in Duluth one of those evenings?

We have a plasma screen in the studio, and we could screen a few tapes if that would be collectively acceptable. We also have a conference room to seat about 20 people.
We could all agree on certain snacks and drinks and doll out responsibilities to each person to bring a little something.

We probably would want to make an address/phone list to hand out to everyone at the meeting. I know I need a second camera from time to time. Keep the meeting short, and have pre-defined goals. I think that would be great. Nickle tour included.

I would have to clear this with work, but I dont believe it would be a problem.

Does this sound like a doable thing?

It's not doable for me. Duluth is a two hour drive from Macon, I have small kids, and no nightly babysitter. Sorry.

I think we should organize the meet in atlanta since this is the "atlanta" group. I think that's probably the best..we just meet up at a starbucks or simiiar and put names to faces and pass out numbers. I'm all for the meet but am not good at organizing such events. I agree we all should help each other out.

Can anyone recommend a convenient spot from the freeway in Atlanta to meet? How about Image which is devoted to helping filmmakers? It used to be on Peachtree St. not far from downtown Atlanta.

Why don't we all pick a convenient day and time as well. I can meet anytime from noon to 8pm anyday from Monday through Sunday. What say you all?

OK, so lets make a new thread with a poll feature or ask a mod to implement a poll here and then we can pick what day works best. i do steadicam and jib work for CNN on weekends from about 2p-11p so im jammed up on those days but im free all week, pending any jobs.

Anybody a student at State or Tech or AIA or something? Somewhere that could lend us some space?

Shoot, the Starbucks idea is as good as any. Or Caribou.

Hey Guys,

Sheesh! Nobody can get this together?! I will try to start things moving...

I am starting a site called docatl.com (for documentary filmmakers, but open to everyone) - so maybe I will start a poll to determine the best days of the week.
I'll try to put something up today (I just bought the domain, so bear with me on it).

I'd vote for Friday night (once a month), or Saturday morning. I live in midtown Atlanta, so I'll look at locations in this area for a meeting -- Borders is always a decent choice.

yeah steve, i personally am not organizer but would love to get involved with other filmakers in between my projects.
midtown atl sounds cool. i have had several meetings at a borders down there. if these were the only days to choose from, friday night sounds good for me at this point (just thinking off the top of my head) saturday morn is not good for me.

much success on your projects.

Ok guys, we need to make up our minds.

We could have finshed at least 2 features by now. Time is being wasted.

I reside in Duluth .. so let's get cracking.

Oh by the way, if anyone knows of any good editor, please let me know cuz I have a music video I need to outsource.

Cheers.

Ok, let's pick a day next week and I'll host a first meet up at my place in West Midtown. (rather than wait till I get the other website up)

Ok then, how about a Saturday or Sunday evening?

If you guys really want to do this you need to offer up a little more flexibility or some times that you are available. At a certain point we will just pick a day and time and once or twice a month if you want to network and learn something new you will have to make up your mind if it's worth it....

Saturday at 7pm?
Sunday at 7pm?

Cast your vote...

Okay guys -- are we slackers or what? All these other cities are putting us to shame. Surely we can meet at least ONCE before 2007 rolls around!

I've got a movie (http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=74395) shot on the HVX that I'll be screening in the Atlanta area at several venues in November and December. On Friday, November 17th the screening is FREE and will be in Duluth. The film runs 36 minutes, so no huge time commitment.

What say we meet up there? We can at least meet each other and not have to worry about finding space or planning something to do.

If it sounds like a plan drop a message here or PM me. This would be 7PM at the Southeastern Railway Museum (http://www.srmduluth.org/about/planning.htm) in Duluth.

Hi guys, a quick question:

I need a couple (well, three) shooters for a live band in Atlanta. Could do either thursday (thanksgiving) or friday, or both. It only has to be DVX shooters, but if 3 HVXers reply, well obviously that would work.

If you're available, interested, please email me. The budget is not remarkable, but at the very least it'd be something for your reel (in addition to -some- money for your time) and hopefully it could turn into more gigs, in the future, if this shoot turns out well.

If you're available and/or interested, please drop me a line!

Thanks,

Phil McCarty

Hello, my name is James Bell (AKA "JB"). I have been reading this thread for some time and noticed a lot of folks who are interested in regular meetings. I have hosted lots of general public meetings, conferences, forums. I would like to establish a regular monthly meeting stating in January.

My experience says it will take several meetings with guest speaker(s) to get the interest up. I know our time is valuable and we must make this meeting as productively as we can. But, there is also something to be said for just socializing and getting to know others in the Atlanta market. No reason this cannot be fun and informative.

I plan to set a date and time and promote the Atl. DVX meetings through Meetup.com. My idea for meetings is to invite guests such as editors, lighting directors, vendors who can give us insight into the biz. Perhaps we can learn new technics or about a new product that will make our "work" easier or more exciting.

I have 2 locations we can meet:

1. Three Bears Cafe on the Square in Marietta
2. Smith's Olde Bar Midtown Atlanta

I have set a date for January 13 for the 1st meeting of '07. This will give us a month to plan and promote. I need your input as to time and day. I suggest Saturday - 1:00pm or 4:00pm. Sunday is generally good for me too. I know that not everyone can attend ever meeting due to scheduling (work and family) but we must set the meeting on a regular schedule so things are consistent.

If you are interested in helping me promote the DVX meetings and be a meeting leader, feel free to give me a call or email me.

Thanks,

Hey guys, I will set up a public Google Calender event, so that anybody who searches calenders for "atlanta, video, ect" will get the info. Each week will have information about who the guest speakers, location, times, ect.

Another good place to get the word out would be to post on
