I'm interested in trying out a 35mm adapter that someone is going to let me test. My main question is once the adapter is on the camera what is used for focus? The dvx focus ring or the focus ring on the slr lens? Also is there anything else I should know about getting setting up the camera to get the best possible image from the 35mm adapter?
And not to sound annoying but one final question: What should a tester do fieldtest work of to properly show off the adapter? I ask because that is part of the agreement of getting the adapter, I've got to do a 20-30min fieldtest.

Where did your friend get an adapter? I've heard that the price for getting everything all set up can be something like $4,000-$8,000...?

Once I've got the adapter in my hands I'll let everyone know where I got it so they can look into too. In a week or so I should be able to let everyone know.

You have to set two levels of focus -- the DVX lens needs to be focused on the ground glass (and then LOCKED there). Then you use the lens on the adapter to focus the actual image.

Barry, how do you lock the focus? This has been bugging me for a while....

Well, with the mini35 they actually include a large shroud around the focus ring to keep you from moving it. But there's no way to actually lock the focus ring -- just put it in manual mode and don't touch it.
Two things you can do:
1) Use a small piece of gaffer's tape to tape the focus ring down, or
2) If you think the focus ring has moved, or that your ground-glass focus distance may be off, you can set the 35mm lens to be absolutely perfect, and then you can use the autofocus sytem to get the DVX to recalibrate the ground glass focus.
