Film festivals. If your good, you'll get recognized. Also, do as much work as you can that has anything to do with the field you want to go into. Get good referals, and always make sure that you stand out (in a good way).

Having a good talent team who's dedicated plus anykind of exposure for your film is good. Myspace.com has about 27million people on it. I'm sure you can start spreading the word there as well. Ultimatly, film festivals are your best biggest exposure. Good Luck!

I found that it's pretty easy to gain a reputation if you learn to do backflips off high stuff. Y'know, walls, phone booths, peoples' shoulders, etc. Just plug your movie after you get done acro-ing it up.

Agreed. I would sya the key to "gain" a good reputation would be to "earn" it! Work hard, take all opportunities to gain exposure, network, and have fun - the rest will fall into place!

Do as my friend jpbankesmercer said.

Then do it some more.

Bust your ass on every shoot and eventually, word will travel. That's the only way I've found that works.

I'm not quite clear on what you mean by "publishing places".... do you mean distributors, or a venue for the work to be screened, or what? Either way, as far as I know, the best you can do is let the work speak for itself and just do what you can to get it in festivals, screenings, etc....

Though I haven't used them, www.withoutabox.com has been mentioned before as a resource (middleman) for submission to festivals and such....
