View Full Version : 35 still camera lens fit on 16 mm. movie camera
Hi, i have another stupid question (sorry i´m a beginner in film cameras). I have seen that It has adapters that fits 35 mm. lenses ( still cameras like Nikkor -nikon cameras) in 16 mm. movie cameras. For example nikon mount to C-mount (bolex-eclair). Well my question is if the 35 mm lens is 50 mm. when attached in the 16 mm. carera works like a 100 mm. lens? Works well still camera lenses in movie cameras?
thanks and sorry my ignorance
Not ignorance, and it is a little confusing. Just remember that a 50mm lens will be a 50mm lens no matter what camera you put it on.
It will look different to each camera however.
For instance,
in still photography, a 50mm lens in considered a "normal" perspective. In 16mm the "normal" lens is a 25mm lens.
So if you put a 50mm on a 35 it will look normal, but if you put it on a 16, it will look a little telephoto.
Conversely, if you took the "normal" 25mm lens off of the 16 camera and put it on a 35, it will look a little wide angle.
a 10mm lens on a 16 camera is a wide andgle lens, but not so wide that things get very warped. If you put a 10mm lens on a 35 camera it would look fish-eye.
If you have a palm, I would recomend "pcam" It will give you a preview of what any lens will look like in any format:

A 50mm lens from a still camera, when mounted on a 16mm movie camera, will have the same field of view as a 50mm lens from a 16mm movie camera.
But the field of view will be quite narrower than it would be if that same lens were mounted on a 35mm movie camera, or a 35mm still camera.
You can experiment with various formats and lenses and see how they compare, here:
