I recently finished a PKG about the Stereophonics. It was videotaped F5 (24p Normal), with auto iris and no ND filters. The interview footage was lit with with 1-ARRI 350 Plus. The light was bounced off of a white ceiling. Performance footage was captured with natural light. Audio for the interview was recorded with an Audio Technica floor mic. Audio from the live performance was recorded with the Panasonic DVX100 on-board mic. Edited with Apple's Final Cut Pro. All footage was filtered with a .85 gamma setting in post. Interview audio provided courtesy of V2 Records and the Stereophonics ('Madame Helga'; You Gotta Go Their To Come Back; 2003)

Nice Job Jon!
I liked the timing at the beginning, and the opening dutch angle. Are you open to a few suggestions?

I always enjoy constructive criticism. I know there are audio issues, etc. The thing is, this PKG is done a deal due to deadlines. But, please fire away though...

I liked this - was interested enough in what the man had to say - I liked the first virgin logo transition (a LOT) and then unfortunately there were lots of them...but like you said you were under time constraints...
I too liked the flashes to black at the beginning - as well as the ending - end of song then applause then kelly's little sign off - great job...
did this air anywhere ?
oh and am I retarded for not knowing what PKG means ?
I'm thinking it's like EPK - with the PK being press kit but what's the G ?

PKG means package. I think the termonology has news roots.
Virgin logo? Do you mean the film burn/leader? The red flash that cuts back and forth from interview to performance? I guess that's cool if people think it's a Virgin logo. It makes sense.
This PKG will air on National Lampoon's AV Squad (episode 3) starting 9/23. Episode 1 is currently airing, now.

Yeah the opening was cool.. but it started to lag a bit over the course. I think I have seen some other stuff of yours and the dutch angle seems to be your little trademark, But I think if you mixed in a few more angles it would of been a little more captivating. I understand they probally where only lit from one direction and your seating may of been locked.
Also, I would suggest that you mentally seperate the audio from the video in your editiing, what I mean is that for example have the guy's interview audio playing over the performance at certain points instead of doing direct AV cuts back and forth.
Besides that, It was great!

Thanks for your comments, Zoomforce. I agree with all of them. I'm not sure if I would call the 'dutch' my tradmark. Although, I have been using it a lot, recently. It's a result of NOT using it for the past 3-years. I'm simply bored with framing musicians in an even frame. I think, after reading your post, I'm going to go back to standard framing and mix in the 'dutch.' We've been laughing on set, when we shoot host wraps, b/c I've been telling the host, after looking into the monitors, to step into my dutch oven. Yup! I'm really mature. Regardless, it's still fun. One thing I have been doing a lot of (which I'll post one of these days), is zooming out slowly, from a 'dutch', and finishing on an even frame. I call it the 'twist.' It looks great with a pan after it, too.
As far as editing techiniques go... I literally sat down at edit and said, "I'm only spending 3-hours on this." I'm finding that if I don't give myself rules, then I'll spend countless hours working on something that's not the end-all-be-all video. Most of our viewers will appreciate the PKG. Mostly, b/c of Kelly Jones' dialogue. I wanted to include V/Os, but the echoy audio from the live performance made it very difficult to hear. Originally, I had the performance audio under the interview audio and it was soooo muddy. Therefore, I took the studio version of the song and mixed them together.

ROcking quick interview. Plus I love the band. Have you heard Kelly Jones do summertime? It's truly great stuff.
