Hey guys, if anyone has any ideas I could use some help creating a ripple / wave effect on a mesh. ie) there is a 2D mesh on a planar surface and when a finger presses in a specific place it sends a ripple/wave distorting the mesh to the outside of the perimeter.

Any ideas? Thanks Is there a good plugin that deals with geometry displacement?

I've had a lot of luck with Turbulent Displace in the distort effects.

The background mesh i used that effect. very subtle but you can adjust to taste

Thanks, I'm looking for something that will create more of a water ripple effect, or for instance imagine a grid layd out on a table, that when touched in a place sends reverberations (ripple) throughout the grid.

"geometry" suggests 3d - did you consider doing this in a 3d program ? Or did you want your "ripples" purely 2d "flat?"

You can use AE's built in Displacement Map effect, and use an animated precomp as the displacement map layer. That precomp might consist of a keyframed expanding "circles" , concentric rings, or whatever shape outline you want.
