hi

this is the first clip I'm posting here!!

HERE IS THE LINK: http://member.ycn.com/~danis/dream.mov
it's mp4 and 16mb

The clip is supposed to be FUNNY !! I know it's sad when you got to tell somebody something is funny :-)

The clip Iīm posting was shot with the xl2 and it shows two dreamscenes out of my new short. To understand them you need to know something about the story:

Itīs about a guy who goes to a speeddating and starts talking to the girl at his table. He tells her a strange story. Itīs about a soldier he found in the woods of his neighbourhood. The soldier was tied to a big trap. So the guy had to rescue him (why the soldier is there is explained in the end). So the girl who at the beginning thinks the guy is a big idiot starts liking the story and also the guy. Thats when the first secen starts. The girl imagines she would be in the place of the soldier and the guy would rescue her.

The second scene is about Marco who runs the speeddating. He listens to the story aswell and still thinks our hero is a big idiot and a loser. So he starts dreaming about what if he would rescue not the soldier but the girl our guy is talking to.

I hope that was not too complicated :-)

Now some technical stuff:

- I'm from Austria so the xl2 was a pal version
- everything was shot in 16x9 mode and in progressive
- I didnīt change anything in the settings except I lowered vertical detail and detail
- of course it is color corrected but it isn't a final CC yet
- every post stuff was done with avid xpress pro

hope you enjoy it. it's in german but they don't talk too much and everything is with subtitles.

Hey gabriel,

Yeah, I put up a clip but nobody seems to want to comment on it either, maybe because of the bad compression :) I think that the whole dream thing is a big cliche' in films. Don't worry, I had written a short with a dream sequence in it too. But as far as the composition and camera work, it looks good. Lighting in the begining was good. The concept with the soldier thing, is intriguing and I would like to see the whole short. Keep it up. Oh yeah, check out my first version "demo reel" in the sony clips if you have time, its under "TRV-7000 footage!". I would appreciate a critique on the editing. Thanks and post up the whole short if you have time.

yeah I know it's cliche but that's the point.

I mean it's supposed to make fun about dream sequences in movies. It isn't ment seriously.

I hope that was english :-)
Will watch your demo reel and will post the whole short but I still have to shoot a lot of stuff so it may take a while...

Hey
I watched it and its hard to appreciate it without seeing the rest of it. You just took two scenes out of something. I liked the lighting and how it looked though. Just didnt really get it till I read your explanation..

The soundtrack was very good.

As well as the visuals, enjoyed it, I thuoght that the composition of most shouts were also done very well, especially the ones in the "jungle".

Gabriel, looks good, man. Liked the lighting and the scenario. Daydream sequence stuff doesn't bother me. If it's very well done who cares? Also like that (for the most part) you composed your shots and moved the camera around instead of locking it off like so many amateur filmmakers do.
Nothing wrong with locking it off, Kubrick did it quite a bit. But then... it's Kubrick.
Keep up the good work, I would like to see the final product some day.

thank you for the kind replys!

franck I live in Vienna. but theres not much going on here when it comes to film. just a bunch of jerks who think they must create the big art with their next short....

I hate it :-)
