We only got one day of shooting done before just about everyone had to pull out for one reason or another, but just thought I'd release the little bit of a scene that we did shoot. It was supposed to be intercut with another scene, that's why there's some big blank gaps and not much attention is paid to consistency. Not really looking for a critique-there's a whole lot wrong with it, but I think I'm pretty much aware of most of the things that need improvement. So, just try and enjoy some of the decent parts!

Edit: Aspect ratio should be fixed in the new link....

Fix that aspect ratio man! What's up with that horrible amount of squeeze?
It's streaming now, I'll let you know what I think after I watch it.
But please, fix the dimensions of the movie file. It's taller than it is wide. :(
Edit:
One of the better fight scenes I've seen. It wasn't boring and most of it didn't have an "oh that's lame" feel. :) Some cool shots in there if you ask me.

Yeah, my friend just told me that the aspect ratio's messed up, but it's weird, it looks fine on my comp. Will fix it asap

Aspect ratio appears to be fixed, although it's a lower rez file.
Hector, I kind of liked the location; I thought the natural lighting looked pretty good, especially in the beginning. What didn't you like about it?

I thought it was pretty darned good. I was mostly impressed with the great choreography, and I liked the location too.. The lighting wasn't bad, especially in the first shot. Good job.
Now I want to make one... : )

Eh, when I said "everyone had to pull out for one reason or another", I meant of the project period. That's all there'll be to the project, that one day of shooting unfortunately. I want to do at least one self contained, finished short film before I go back to college though...
btw, since I'm going to college in Virginia, the offer to work with you over one of my breaks still stands. Got a few classmates from NC, might be able to stay with them for a little while...

Some real good stuff in there. Your color timing is inconsistent. I liked the color in the first 30 seconds. After the black break at thirty seconds the color looks reaaaallly amateurish. If you can match it to the first part, cut out that little black, and make sure everything else matces it'll help it gel better.
I'd like to hear more sound effects work. You've got punch sounds but the nunchukas in the beginning have no effect attached to them and sound really hollow. Maybe you could find that fake nunchukas wind sound that's in most kungfu movies.
I was also hoping for more exagerrated sounds from the fighters, like some Bruce Lee WHHOOO and WAAHHs would be sweet.
You could turn this into a short with a helpless girl in the beginning. Girl walking home in the woods, is jumped by two hooligans, man in black sees her in trouble and kicks ass.
Good stuff man, keep on shooting.

Thanks for the compliments. This is just meant to be a kind of "rough cut of an unfinished project", so there's no color correction, and I've been editing for the last two days, so was too burned out to add the sound effects for him swining them around at the very beginning. And trust me, I don't have the acting ability to turn this into a short (I'm the guy in black). :) I'd like to do a more self contained, FINISHED product with a story sometime, just as long as I don't have an acting role.

You're the guy in black? Awesome. I don't think you need to do any real acting, just be over the top. I'm sure you can pull out a decent Bruce or Jackie Chan impression.
If I had moves like that I'd be shooting ninja films. :)

Hey
When I said better location I meant somewhere urban, but I dont know the context of your story so the woods are probably better in your case. Anyway what school are you going to in VA?

No, the story really didn't make it much better. :) It's very amateur as far as production values and technique. I'm going to the Virginia Military Institute. Not much opportunity for filmmaking there, but it provides me with a fairly good set of backup career skills...
