DVXFest – HorrorFest II – Official Rules

Make a movie. Genre/Theme = Horror.
10 minutes and 1 second is a disqualification. 10 Minutes or less is acceptable.
Please do not exceed what would be reasonably considered as a Hard R rating for your film. If you are unsure, please ask first. We strive to allow for creative freedom for all entrants, however, pornography will not be screened as part of this festival.

Please include the text "Official DVXFest Participant" at the *Beginning* of your film. It must be clearly visible. Other than that, feel free to accomplish this however you want.
You must use the following 3 letters in your film: "DVX". This may be represented visually, or as dialog. Feel free to be creative with this required element. But, please make it clear (to those of us looking for it). You will be required to provide a still frame and/or time stamp when you officially submit your entry. This requirement is merely to encourage that your entry was shot during the allotted time frame. NOTE: Text overlay added in post is NOT acceptable. Exceptions granted for animated films. Please ask first if you are unsure.
You must use original or licensed material in your film. Failure to do so will result in disqualification. DVXuser.com (or its partners) assumes no liability for copyright violations. We will make a good faith effort to identify any and all copyright violations in submitted entries.

HorrorFest II Run Dates
Shooting dates start now. The dates to make your film are from July 31, 2013 through October 29, 2013. The deadline for entries will be October 29, 2013, at 11:59pm Pacific Standard Time. All entries will be screened for compliance with the very simple rules posted above, and will go live on Halloween night!

HorrorFest II Promotion

No more than 30 seconds of actual footage from your film may be displayed prior to the date that entries officially go live.
You may promote your film (and DVXfest in general) on, or outside of, DVXuser.com. Please do *not* register to websites simply to spam links to your fest entry. Utilize channels and communities you are already involved in. “Spammy” behavior will be grounds for disqualification.
*DVXuser reserves the right to alter or edit these rules until September 1st 2013. We will post a clear notification at the top of this post if any rules changes are made prior to this date. We will also "bump" this thread to update folks who have subscribed to it.

**While it is our goal to publicly screen all entries that meet the above qualifications, DVXuser reserves the right to refuse entry for any reason.

Prizes will be listed in the next post below this one. More will be added right up until the festival closes.

Upload/Submission instructions have been posted in the following thread:

Historically, our sponsors have always stepped up to support the creative endeavors of our members. We typically have had prize pools ranging from $10,000 - $25,000+ worth of camera gear and cash. This post will be updated semi-regularly with new prize additions as they are made official. Please keep an eye here, and please support our sponsors who (more often than not) freely donate prizes to our (free) festivals without anything in return (other than some goodwill and good press, I suppose).

Firstly, the winning entry, and select other entries (pending official confirmation of future event) will receive automatic entry, eligibility for future prizes, and screening at our (planned) inaugural annual festival. We plan to shift to an annual schedule with a live screening and other live events beginning in 2014 (sometime early summer most likely). The plan right now is for the one in 2014 to take place in Austin, TX. Our fests will remain free (as always).

Still confirming some sponsors, so watch this space. I can say that Paralinx will be donating a prize package valued at around $2500 for starters.

More to come.

Running through some ideas in my head, but I'm in the last month of production on my webseries and still have 3 months of post production to get through, so no promises. I'll have to leave this one up to one of the mods. I've entered these fests since 2008 and I still don't really understand how they get the final result!
Plus, this fest might be a different process all together.

In the past, the films are watched and rated by DVXUser's with 50 or more posts. It's a 'star' rating...1 to 10. Once the first voting period closes, the votes are tallied
and the top 3 to 5 films are listed (if it's a close call) and a second voting period starts, but only for those who haven't voted in the first round...when that ends, the top three (winners) are announced.

It's been quite awhile since the last fest, so don't hold me to that...but if memory serves me right, that's how it will go. Remember, the idea is to MAKE A FILM...so every entry is a winner in reality!

I'll add a +1 to the download option. Streaming media is blocked here at work, and I'd like to watch them on my lunch break.

"But, don't you work for a company in which your job is an online digital media producer?"
"Yep."
"And they don't allow streaming media?"
"Nope."
"Doesn't that make things unnecessarily harder than it needs to be?"
"Yep."
"Ok, just making sure."
