Hi,
I'm unaware of any NLE that can capture HDV24P. I'm sure they're under development, but does JVC provide a capture tool that could extract the duplicate frames on the fly and save a new 24p mpeg2 video for existing NLE's?
thoughts anyone?

I know Lumiere is supposed to be working to adapt their tool to support the HDV 60p/24p mode (24P is actually a 60p recording using 2-3 frame duplication).
As you probably know, JVC shipped a capture tool and a basic editing program with the HD1, so the precedent has been established -- hopefully they will have something at least as functional for the HD100! I'd hate to have this brand-new toy and not be able to use it!

This same type of discussion is happening on Editions forum about this camera and JVC's 'maverick' 24P (60P) encoding. Neither FCP or Edition have a solution that I'm aware of. I think Adobe's group was working on something but as it stands the 24P HDV straight from the camera into any NLE will not work (AFAIK).
JVC list Pinnacle, Canopus, Adobe and some others as NLE's for this camera. Makes me wonder.

Well, there's probably still a couple of months before it's supposed to be released, so maybe updates to those editors are in the pipeline?

Here is a screenshot of a 720P 24 timline in Edition. It will work but getting the footage in is the issue (and maybe the 19Mb datarate). I hope your right, and they include a capture program. The 720P is not an enormous difference to SD 16X9 (size wise) like 1080i is visually in the editor.

There are alot of presets to accomodate the 720P 24fps scenario already built into the timeline. I suspect FCP is the same. My Premiere is different in that it's current HDV codec implementation only supports 1080 50i or 60i.
I'm hoping for that capture program Barry, pray hard....

Some suppliers have told me it goes on sale today in the UK (that was last Friday though).

Yes, you euro guys seem like you'll get it first! Our suppliers have been saying "September". Please keep us posted as to when it's actually made available over there!
I may phone them again today...
I have got to the point where I feel they are getting a bit tired of me asking when it will arrive the whole time...lol
Should be avaliable to buy, in the warehouse today!

Would the capture utility that came with the HD1/HD10/PD1 work? That should be nice, but it's nowhere available...

It should probably work for the 30p mode, but I would be amazed if it worked for the 24p mode. JVC's earlier deck can't even play back the 24p mode, so I wouldn't expect that 2+ year old capture utility to support it.
Who knows though, it might!
