I've been wantng to make my editing suite perfect for grading for awhile, so I got paint and vinyl as close to 18% grey as possible and dimmable led 5600k lighting and went to town on my edit suite. The colors really pop, well worth it!

How did you match the paint and vinyl to match 18% grey? Did you try different samples under the 5600K light, or what?

I had some vinyl already...which looks identical to my grey cards. I took the vinyl to Lowes to color match the sample, and I must say they got it really close if not spot on. Ordered a 20 foot roll of vinyl and went to work. It's really incredible how the edges of the monitors blend away and make the screen float in a sea of neutral.

That is very nice Richard. Congrats!

Wait, you taped all the surfaces? Do I understand you correctly?:)

It's grey vinyl, like what they make vinyl decals for vehicles with. Not tape. Makes the monitors and stuff look like they were manufactures grey color. It stretches with heat which allows the corners and rounded edges to be covered smoothly.

Haha sounds great! But basically it is tape (a sticker) it's not paint?

Oh, and what kind of paint did you use? Some kind of mate paint I presume...?

The desk and wall were painted with flat paint, the rest is covered with vinyl.

I got my 18% grey paint from b&h, but only did the front wall as that is the one i see the most while editing.

I also did the 5600k back lit from lumequest.

Great. Thx, I'm just thinking of doing something similar.
