Can someone please explain the theory of this to me. My knowledge on the working mechanic of this system all together is weak... must know morrre. Before I try and build it... i must understand it.

a long thread about this was the following:
http://www.dvxuser.com/V3/showthread.php?t=17660
some people even built it.
anyway, the concept is easy: most of those filters are empty and used just as spacers.
the 35mm lens in front focuses its projected image on a ground glass surface (GG in that design), a sort of frosted glass. the dvx100 focuses on that image (thanks to the diopter filters it can focus very close to the lens) and you get an image with 35mm DOF.
drawbacks are that it's not too easy to create a suitable ground glass surface (grain problems) and keep it clean. and the image will be double flipped on dvx100's LCD. you can flip it on one dimension using the magnet though.

When you and they say empty they mean no glass is in the filter? And I take it the a 55mm UV Haze Glass Filter can act as a Ground glass... if so are there any better products that make a good GG?

When you and they say empty they mean no glass is in the filter?Right.
And I take it the a 55mm UV Haze Glass Filter can act as a Ground glass..I doubt it. i dont know exactly what he did. somebody else will be able to tell you.
if so are there any better products that make a good GG?
check that thread and do a search, they discussed this a lot.
