I watched the 7 minute trailer for "Catherine", and it was a *really* long 7 minutes. Unspeakably bad. Throw some typical porn actors into period costumes, give them some pointless, but pretentious dialogue, and shoot in the style of a circa 1989 music video. Amadeus, it ain't.

In any case, I've actually seen a bit of this guys work, but not this latest film. Truly stunning cinematography and art direction.

Well, Barry, the scripts are nothing to write home about (pun intended) but I think the quality of the production is what I'm referring to. Andrew Blake, same thing. It's still not engrossing content, but it's shot beautifully.

[EDIT: The real problem of course is your "casting options". Porn folk can't act. End stop. But could you imagine what you could do if you had real actors? Again, harkening back to the great french art films.

Saw La Belle Noisuese recently a fairly recent winner of the Grand Prix award at Cannes - Outstanding. I'm not suggesting that Ninn's stuff is even in the same league, but I applaud the effort of doing something artistic within the given framework.
